WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 12, 2021) – Powered by three saves and a shutout from senior Melissa Torres (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada), the Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Assumption College on Tuesday afternoon at Brian Kelly Stadium.

The Mavericks (6-1-4) remain unbeaten in their last seven games, while the Greyhounds (4-1-6) earn their third straight draw.

Torres made three saves and now has five shutouts on the year. Senior Juliana Conforti (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) had a game-high three shots on goal and sophomores Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) and Marlene Avalos (San Diego, Calif./Otay Ranch) also had a shot on goal.

Assumption was led by Lila Kalooski who had a team-high two shots. Julia Walsh made five saves to post a shutout.

Mercy had several scoring chances throughout the game, but were unable to convert. Rosa sent two shots high in the opening five minutes of the contest and senior Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon) had a shot just go wide left of the net in the 30th minute.

Torres made two saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

The Mavericks had another great scoring chance in the 48th minute when junior Dominique Bono (Islip, N.Y./New York Tech) hit the crossbar. Walsh then made three saves on Conforti shot attempts to keep the game scoreless. Walsh made another stop on a Rosa shot in the 83rd minute, but neither team would score and the game went to overtime.

Neither team recorded a shot in the first overtime, sending the game into a second overtime.

Mercy recorded the first three shots of the second overtime period and Assumption answered with three shots of their own. However, neither team could find the back of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Mercy held a 14-6 edge in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
