Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 7-1 loss to No. 9 Adelphi on Tuesday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Kasey Volz who scored and by senior Lauren Viscione who made 16 saves. Mercy is 2-3 all-time against Franklin Pierce but have lost the last three meetings. Prior to Saturday's game, graduate student Nicole Cotton, seniors Briannagh Smith, Savanna James, Viscione and Cydney Wolff will be recognized in a ceremony for Senior Day. Cotton leads the team with three goals and six points and Volz is second on the team with five points by way of two goals and one assist. Junior Katie Kreider is third on the team with four points on two goals. Sophomore Ally Schreck has a goal and an assist. Sophomore Rachel Palladino and junior Lily Sherry also have goals. Sophomore Kelly Rosenfeld and junior Alyssa Sacco both have a team-high two assists and sophomore Rieley Fitzgerald each have an assist. Viscione is currently 1-9 in goal with 95 saves and a .725 save percentage in 10 starts. The senior currently ranks third in the NE10 in saves.
The Mavericks are looking to qualify for the NE10 Tournament for the first time in just their second year as members of the conference. Mercy won three NE10 games in their inaugural season as members in 2019 and will look to increase that number in 2021. The Mavericks have been picked 14th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll but look to prove the coaches wrong. First-year Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola returns Sacco who was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2019 after leading the team with three goals and three assists for nine points. Sherry also returns after appearing in 16 games in 2019, recording the game-winning goal against Pace. Also coming back is Kreider who scored two goals in 2019, Cotton and senior Savanna James also return after scoring goals in 2019. Senior Briannagh Smith returns after starting in 11 games in 2019 with one assist. Viscione and senior Cydney Wolff are back in goal for the Mavericks. Viscione made 154 saves in 2019 with two shutouts and a .782 save percentage in 16 starts. Also returning from the 2019 team are juniors Christy Falisi and Taylor Durkin. Spinazzola will also rely upon sophomores Kate Ringstad, Rosenfeld, Rory McComb, Ally Schreck, Kirk, Palladino, Kyra Reyes, Fitzgerald, Devlin and freshmen Volz, Jessica Evans and Alexandra Giordano.
Scouting the Ravens
Franklin Pierce enters Saturday's game on a three-game losing streak and are coming off a 5-0 loss against No. 8 Saint Anselm on Wednesday. The Ravens were picked No. 8 in the NE10 Coaches' Poll after going 8-11 in 2019. Franklin Pierce is led by senior Feline van Doorn who has a team-high 17 points on a team-high eight goals and one assist. Junior Christine Jarowicz has 11 points on four goals and three assists and sophomore Anna Beck has four goals. Freshman Addy Araneo is 3-6 in goal with 76 saves and a .745 save percentage and junior MacKenzie Potvin is 0-4 in goal with 29 saves and a .630 save percentage.

Mercy resumes action on Wednesday, October 20th when they host Molloy at 3 p.m.
