Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off a 2-1 loss to Southern New Hampshire on Thursday. Mercy was led by sophomore Ally Schreck who scored and by sophomore Rieley Fitzgerald who had an assist. Freshman Alexandra Giordano made three saves in her first collegiate start. Mercy is looking to surpass their win total from 2019 with a win and look for a school-record fourth NE10 win. The Mavericks are currently on a three-game losing streak and are 1-2 all-time against the Purple Knights with the lone win coming in 2015. Sophomore Ally Schreck was named NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday after scoring two goals with two assists against Molloy last Wednesday. Schreck has a team-high six goals and 15 points with three assists. Graduate student Nicole Cotton is second on the team with five goals and 11 points. Freshman Kasey Volz is third on the team with eight points by way of two goals and a team-high four assists. Junior Katie Kreider has six points on three goals and junior Alyssa Sacco has seven points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Rachel Palladino and junior Lily Sherry also have goals. Sophomore Kelly Rosenfeld has a goal and three assists and Fitzgerald has three assists. Senior Lauren Viscione is currently 3-11 in goal with 131 saves and a .736 save percentage in 14 starts. The senior currently ranks third in the NE10 in saves.
Mercy won three NE10 games in their inaugural season as members in 2019 and will look to increase that number in 2021. The Mavericks have been picked 14th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll but look to prove the coaches wrong. First-year Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola returns Sacco who was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2019 after leading the team with three goals and three assists for nine points. Sherry also returns after appearing in 16 games in 2019, recording the game-winning goal against Pace. Also coming back is Kreider who scored two goals in 2019, Cotton and senior Savanna James also return after scoring goals in 2019. Senior Briannagh Smith returns after starting in 11 games in 2019 with one assist. Viscione and senior Cydney Wolff are back in goal for the Mavericks. Viscione made 154 saves in 2019 with two shutouts and a .782 save percentage in 16 starts. Also returning from the 2019 team are juniors Christy Falisi and Taylor Durkin. Spinazzola will also rely upon sophomores Kate Ringstad, Rosenfeld, Rory McComb, Ally Schreck, Kirk, Palladino, Kyra Reyes, Fitzgerald, Devlin and freshmen Volz, Jessica Evans and Alexandra Giordano.
Scouting the Purple Knights
Saint Michael's enters Saturday's game on a seven-game losing streak and is coming off a 3-0 loss to Bentley on Tuesday. The Purple Knights were picked 11th in the NE10 Coaches' Poll after going 4-14 in 2019. Senior Jenna Puleo leads Saint Michael's with a team-high 41 points on a team-high 13 goals and 15 assists. Junior Erickson Richard is second on the team with 28 points by way of 12 goals and four assists and sophomore Bridgie Loughlin has 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Freshman Riley O'Connor is 4-12 in goal with 154 saves, a .730 save percentage and two shutouts in 16 starts.
