DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2021) – Powered by 12 different Mavericks scoring, the Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 12-0 victory over ECC foe Lincoln University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (6-1-3, 5-0 ECC) remain undefeated in ECC play, while the Lions (0-8, 0-5 ECC) remain winless on the year. Mercy was aided by honorary coach for the day Associate Dean of the Nursing Program at Mercy Dr. Miriam Ford. The 12 goals are the most scored in program history and the 12-goal margin of the victory is the largest in program history.
Sophomore Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) led the way with a game-high five points by way of her first collegiate goal and three assists. Freshman Stacy Avendano (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) added her first collegiate goal with an assist and sophomore Marlene Avalos (San Diego, Calif./Otay Ranch) had her first collegiate goal with an assist. Sophomore Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) scored and had an assist and sophomore Alisa Jensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) and freshman Elizabeth Bowles (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers Montessori Academy) both scored their first collegiate goals. Junior Carli LoNigro (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) scored her first collegiate goal and senior Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon) had a goal and an assist. Juniors Dominique Bono (Islip, N.Y./New York Tech) and Alexa Billingham (Nesconset, N.Y./Sachem North) and seniors Juliana Conforti (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Jessica Hoyt (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) also scored. Senior Fernanda Castro (San Diego, Calif./Bonita Vista) had two assists and senior Sydney Cooper (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) and sophomore Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley) had an assist. Senior Veronica Scruggs (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made two saves to earn her first collegiate shutout.
Lincoln was led by Sarata Bello who made 20 saves.
The Mavericks wasted little time in scoring as Billingham netted her second goal of the season in just the 3rd minute of action to make it 1-0. Conforti followed with her first goal of the season in the 5th minute to make it 2-0. Avalos later made it 3-0 on her first collegiate goal in the 9th minute of action.
It remained 3-0 until the 21st minute when Bono found the back of the net off a Rosa assist to make it 4-0. Camacho and Hoyt concluded the scoring in the half to make it 6-0 at halftime.
It was 6-0 until the 53rd minute when LoNigro scored for the first time in her collegiate career to make it 7-0. Bowles answered with her first collegiate goal just under three minutes later to put Mercy up, 8-0. McKail netted her third goal of the year to make it 9-0 and Jensen, Rosa and Avendano all scored their first career goals to finish off the scoring for Mercy.
Mercy held a 43-2 edge in shots and a 14-0 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, October 12th when they play at Assumption at 3 p.m.
