Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 66-53 loss to American International on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who had 14 points and by senior Taysha Bender and junior Kellie Nudd who had 13 points apiece. Wall was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 19.0 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game in two games last week. Mercy is looking to win their first home opener since 2019 when they defeated Wilmington. The Mavericks are 4-6 in their last 10 meetings against Felician with the last win coming in 2018. Mercy was picked seventh in the ECC Coaches' Poll after going 1-8 in 2021. The top six teams in the ECC standings qualify for the ECC Tournament. Mercy made their first ECC Tournament appearance since 2009 last season and earned their first win over St. Thomas Aquinas since 2009. Wall ranks second in the conference in points per game (19.0), is second in assists (4.0) and leads the ECC in steals per game (4.0). Bender ranks sixth in the conference in points per game (17.0) and is shooting 44.8 percent from the floor with 2.5 made threes per game. Nudd is averaging 13.0 points per game and is averaging a team-high-tying 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior Asha Talib is posting 6.0 points per game and a team-high-tying 6.0 rebounds per game. Mercy currently ranks third in the ECC in points per game (66.0), is second in steals per game (10.5) and leads the ECC with a 36.6 percent three-point field goal percentage.
Scouting the Golden Falcons
Felician opened their 2021-22 season with back-to-back losses to Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen. The Golden Falcons were picked sixth in the CACC North Division Coaches' Poll after going 0-11 in 2021 and 4-22 in 2019-20. Felician is led by graduate student Katelyn Andres who is averaging a team-high 13.0 points per game on 55.6 percent shooting from downtown. Redshirt sophomore Briana Lee is second on the team with 11.0 points per game and freshman Mimmi Hahne posts 9.0 points per game. Lee averages a team-high 12.0 rebounds per game and junior Catherine Lecop dishes out a team-high 4.5 assists per game with 2.5 steals per game.
