Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off a 66-57 win over STAC on Wednesday in their ECC opener. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who had a game-high 17 points. Junior Kellie Nudd and senior Taysha Bender added 15 points apiece. Mercy won their ECC opener for the first time since 2009. The Mavericks are looking to earn a win over Chestnut Hill for the first time since December 5, 2015. Mercy is 1-5 all-time against Chestnut Hill with the lone win coming at home. Wall is a one-time ECC Player of the Week and two-time Honor Roll recipient. Junior Asha Talib was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on November 22nd. Mercy was picked seventh in the ECC Coaches' Poll after going 1-8 in 2021. The top six teams in the ECC standings qualify for the ECC Tournament. Mercy made their first ECC Tournament appearance since 2009 last season. Wall ranks second in the ECC in points per game (18.8) and assists (4.8) and is third in steals per game (2.6). Senior Taysha Bender ranks sixth in the conference in points per game (15.8) with 2.0 made threes per game. Junior Kellie Nudd is averaging 9.8 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Talib is posting 5.6 points per game and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game. Talib is currently ranked in the top 10 in the ECC in rebounds per game. Sophomore Maria Tedesco is averaging 7.0 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game and has scored in double figures in three of her last five games. Mercy currently is fourth in the ECC in points per game (65.6), is third in steals per game (8.5) and is second in the ECC with 48 made threes.

Scouting the Griffins

Chestnut Hill is coming off a 60-55 overtime loss to Kutztown on Wednesday, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Griffins were picked in a tie for fifth in the CACC South Division Coaches' Poll after going 11-18 in 2019-20. Chestnut Hill currently ranks No. 11 nationally in rebounds (383) and No. 16 in free throw percentage (80.3). The Griffins are led by Leah Miller who averages a team-high 16.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Emily Chmiel is second on the team with 14.0 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game on a team-best 58.3 percent shooting. Cassie Sebold rounds out three scoring in double figures with 13.3 points per game. She also dishes out a team-best 6.2 assists per game.
