DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2021) – The Mercy College women's basketball team resumes action on Wednesday, February 24th when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 5 p.m. The Mavericks will then face the Spartans again on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks
- Mercy is coming off a 79-45 loss to No. 13/17 Daemen on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Asya Brandon who had a career-high 16 points.
- Mercy was picked fifth in the ECC Preseason Coaches Poll in January.
- Mercy currently sits in sixth place in the ECC standings with all teams qualifying for the ECC Tournament besides D'Youville.
- The Mavericks look to pick up their first win over St. Thomas Aquinas since January 14, 2009.
- Mercy's last home win over the Spartans came on January 14, 2009.
- Mercy will look to snap a 26-game losing streak to the Spartans.
- In the teams' last meeting on February 17, 2021, the Spartans came away with a 63-46 win in Sparkill.
- Mercy is led by sophomore Katie Wall who is averaging a team-high 10.6 points per game with 4.0 rebounds per game. Freshman Asya Brandon is second on the team with 6.6 points per game in just 16.0 minutes per game. Junior Taysha Bender is third on the team with 5.0 points per game and sophomore Kellie Nudd is tied for third with 5.0 points per game.
- Sophomore Brianna Lee currently leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per game. Freshman Jamie Waldron is coming on strong, averaging 6.3 points per game over her last three games, including a career-high eight points against STAC last Wednesday.
- The Mavericks are ranked No. 18 nationally in fewest fouls (91) and No. 16 in fewest turnovers (91).
Scouting the Spartans
- St. Thomas Aquinas is coming off a 47-39 loss to Molloy on Sunday that snapped a three-game winning streak. The Spartans were led by Alexa Huertas who had a team-high 16 points.
- The Spartans were picked second in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 21-7 last year. STAC won the ECC Co-Regular Season Championship in 2020.
- STAC currently sits at 4-5 overall and 4-2 in ECC play. The Spartans are in second place in the ECC standings just a half game ahead of Molloy.
- The Spartans are 1-3 on the road this year after going 9-3 away from home last year.
- Leading the Spartans is junior Alexa Huertas who is averaging a team-high 12.3 points per game. She was named ECC Player of the Week last week. Also contributing for the Spartans is junior Victoria Kurisko who is averaging 7.6 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game.
- Freshman Katie Bischoping is posting 7.1 points per game and freshmen Julia Reggio and Angelique Holguin have both been named ECC Rookie of the Week once.
- The Spartans are currently ranked No. 9 nationally in scoring defense (53.3), No. 22 in field goal percentage defense (35.2%), No. 33 in turnover margin (4.11) and No. 38 in turnovers forced per game (19.4).
- Holguin is currently ranked No. 37 nationally in blocked shots per game (1.67).
