ECC Mental Health Awareness Week Goes Virtual

West Babylon, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference announced that its annual Mental Health Awareness week, scheduled for April 26-30, will be entirely virtual. 

The ECC will host four interactive Zoom sessions with each focused on improving mental health. The topics include improving sleep during stressful times, meditation practices, a yoga class, and a chance to just take a break with a comedy and illusionist. 

The sessions are open to all student-athletes and staff at ECC member institutions. The schedule, full description of each session, and registration links are below. Registration is required to attend.

In addition, the ECC is also planning a social media campaign to take place throughout the week that will include positive affirmations and account takeovers by ECC student-athletes.

Monday, April 26 - 7:30 p.m.
Tips for Improving Sleep During Stressful Times
Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Sleep Coach Jonathan Johnson will discuss the impact of sleep on one's personal life, athletic and academic performance as well as techniques to manage stress and develop better sleep habits.

Tuesday, April 27 - 8:00 p.m.  
Relax and Be Aware: A Beginner's Guide to Sports Mindfulness
Join us for 30 minutes of modern meditation practices used by professional athletes across the nation. These simple techniques calm down the body, regain focus, and help scholar-athletes develop natural ways to self-regulate under pressure. Each student attending will learn the basic building blocks of applying meditation to peak performance.

Wednesday, April 28 - 8:00 p.m.
Yoga with Shannon
Grab your mat and water bottle and join us for a 30 minutes yoga class. This beginners class focuses on releasing tension, connecting with the breath, and helping student-athletes gain strength and flexibility. Practicing yoga is widely used by athletes to improve flexibility, endurance, core strength, and balance.

Take A Break with Comedian and Illusionist TJ Tana 
Self-care starts with taking a break! Escape from the stress of classwork and sport demands with 30 minutes of INTERACTIVE magic and comedy. Grab a snack and just be entertained for a much-needed mental health break!
