11 Mavericks Record a Point as No. 18 Women's Lacrosse Earns 19-3 Win Over Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Apr. 21, 2021) – Powered by 11 different Mavericks recording a point, the No. 18 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 19-3 win over ECC foe University of Bridgeport on Wednesday night at Knights Field.

The Mavericks (7-1, 2-0 ECC) have won five games in a row and remain unbeaten in ECC play, while the Purple Knights (1-3, 1-3 ECC) have lost three straight games.

Leading the way for Mercy was graduate student Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) who had a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Junior Erin Chalich (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had two goals and three assists and senior Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had two goals and two assists. Sophomore Sydney Corley (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) had a career-high four points on three goals and an assist and freshman Ally Schreck (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) had a career-high three points on two goals and one assist. Junior Juliana Keenan (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) had two goals and a game-high eight draw controls and junior Taylor Bishop (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) also scored twice. Junior Kerri Cummings (Islip, N.Y./Islip) also scored and freshman Ryleigh Hostinsky (Point Pleasant Borough, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) netted her first collegiate goal. Junior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) dished out two assists and freshman Kelly Rosenfeld (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) also had an assist. Senior Kellie Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had six draw controls and junior Micayla Brady (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had a game-high two caused turnovers with three ground balls. Senior Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) played the first 18:51 minutes in goal and made one save to earn the win.

Bridgeport was led by Giselle Hall, Tereza Kreuzova and Jessica Kinser who all recorded a goal. Abbie Jones made 11 saves to take the loss.

Mercy scored less than three minutes into the game and dominated throughout to win their fifth straight game. The Mavericks jumped out to a 9-0 lead with 16:52 left in the first half with Keenan tallying the first Maverick goal at the 27:47 mark. Mackie, Bishop and Chalich followed with their first goals of the day to make it 4-0 with 23:12 left in the first half.

Bishop, Corace and Corley and Schreck continued the onslaught with four straight goals to bring the Mercy lead to 8-0 with 18:45 on the clock. Chalich capped off the 9-0 run with her second of the day to make it 9-0. Bridgeport ended their scoring drought at the 9:46 mark following a Kreuzova goal. Corley ended the scoring in the half with her second of the half, off an assist from Chalich, to give Mercy a 10-1 lead at halftime.

Mackie found the back of the net less than 30 seconds into the second half to make it 11-1. Cummings got in the scoring column with 25:43 left to play before Mackie netted another to give Mercy a 13-1 lead.

Hall scored for Bridgeport to make it 13-2 before Keenan recorded her second goal of the day to put Mercy up 14-2. The Purple Knights scored their final goal at the 17:24 mark to make it 14-3. Mercy scored the game's final five goals to pull away for the win. Schreck, Corley and Mackie found the back of the net again and Hostinsky netted her first career goal at the 4:36 mark to make it 18-3. Corace finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal with 3:09 left in the game.

Mercy held a 40-6 edge in shots, a 25-11 edge in ground balls and an 18-6 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, April 24th when they play at Molloy at 11 a.m.
