Mackie Records 100th Career Point as No. 18 Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day With 15-3 Win Over D'Youville

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2021) – Powered by graduate student Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) recording her 100th career point on Senior Day, the No. 18 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 15-3 win over ECC foe D'Youville College on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field.

In a ceremony prior to the game, the team recognized Mackie, Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Gianna Maffei (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), Kellie Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue), Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) and 2020 graduate Senna Tadfie.

The Mavericks (9-1, 4-0 ECC) have won seven games in a row, while the Saints (2-9, 0-5 ECC) end their season with a loss.

Mackie had a game-high-tying four points on three goals and one assist. She now has 101 career points and becomes the 13th Maverick in program history to record 100 points. Freshman Christina Lopreato (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had a career-high three goals and junior Taylor Bishop (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) had two goals and an assist. Corace had a goal and an assist and junior Kerri Cummings (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had a game-high four assists. Junior Erin Chalich (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) dished out three assists and Znaniecki, Maffei, sophomore Sydney Corley (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) and freshman Carly Diolosa (Brookhaven, N.Y./Bellport) also scored. Junior Micayla Brady (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had a goal and two caused turnovers and junior Juliana Keenan (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) also scored with a game-high three caused turnovers. Sophomore Erin Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Adelphi University) recorded an assist and Jacobsen made two saves in 19:09 minutes of action without allowing a goal to earn the win. Junior Madeline Garvalosa (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) made two saves in 20:17 minutes of action without allowing a goal.

D'Youville was led by Bethany Wolcott who scored a team-high two goals. Hannah Wilson made seven saves to take the loss.

Mercy dominated from start-to-finish in securing their seventh straight win. Mackie got the scoring started less than a minute in to make it 1-0. Bishop followed with her first of the day at the 27:42 mark to make it 2-0. Mackie later made it 3-0 with her second of the day. Corace found the back of the net with 22:30 left in the first half to increase the Mercy lead to 4-0. Mackie recorded the assist on the goal for her 100th career point.

Brady followed with her first goal of the season in transition from Cummings to make it 5-0. Lopreato then netted back-to-back goals to give Mercy a 7-0 lead with 15:20 remaining in the first half. Znaniecki and Keenan got in the scoring column to put Mercy up 9-0 with 10:51 on the clock.

Bishop, Mackie, Diolosa and Maffei closed the half with goals to put Mercy up 13-0 at halftime.

Lopreato and Corley netted goals in the second half to increase the Mercy lead to 15-0 with 11 minutes remaining. D'Youville broke through with their first goal of the game at the 6:58 mark to make it 15-1. The Saints added two more goals, but it was not enough and the Mavericks cruised to the Senior Day win.

Mercy held a 30-8 edge in shots and a 20-10 edge in ground balls. D'Youville held an 11-9 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, April 28th when they play at STAC at 3:30 p.m.
