Kearnan Records Game-High Eight Points as No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Earns 16-6 Senior Day Win Over Molloy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2021) – Powered by a season-high eight points on a game-high five goals and three assists from junior Brady Kearnan (Courtice, Ontario/Newberry College), the No. 8 Mercy College men's lacrosse team earned a 16-6 Senior Day win over ECC foe Molloy College on Thursday afternoon at Mercy Field.

In a ceremony prior to the game, seniors Anthony DeVito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point), Kyle Gardner (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point), Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), Bobby Norton (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), John Collins (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg), Sean Rigley (Pleasant Hill, Calif./Onondaga CC) , Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Vincent Campbell (Clark, N.J./AL Johnson) were recognized for their contributions to the men's lacrosse program and the athletic department.

The Mavericks (8-1, 3-0 ECC) earn a share of their second straight ECC Regular Season Championship, while the Lions (3-8, 1-3 ECC) drop both meetings to Mercy this season.

Kearnan also had two ground balls and senior Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) had three goals and an assist. Junior Jack Gibbons (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had two goals and one assist and senior Robert LoRicco (Guilford, Conn./University at Albany) had two goals. Freshman Andrew Calabria (Sachem, N.Y./Sachem North) had a goal and two assists and senior Marty Shargel (Agoura Hills, Calif./Onondaga CC) and freshmen Kyle Gabrinowitz (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) and Damiano Ferrara (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) also scored. McPartland and sophomore TJ Heyder (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) added an assist and Rigley had an assist with a game-high-tying two caused turnovers. Rey went 19-for-23 on face-offs with a career-high 16 ground balls. Junior Tommy Umano (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) made eight saves to earn the win.

Molloy was led by Jack Egan who had a team-high three goals. Adam Hyman made 12 saves to take the loss.

Kearnan opened the scoring less than a minute in to give Mercy a 1-0 lead with 14:01 left in the opening quarter. Scorcia followed with his first of the day to make it 2-0 at the 5:32 mark. Egan scored the final goal of the period to make it 2-1 in favor of the Mavericks after one quarter of play.

Egan scored again to begin the second quarter, tying the game at 2-2. Ferrara put the Mavericks back in front following a Rigley caused turnover that led to Rigley feeding Ferrara in transition to make it 3-2. Kearnan and Shargel netted back-to-back goals to make it 5-2 before Kearnan found the back of the net to give Mercy a 6-2 lead with 4:57 left in the quarter. A Jason Rebaudo goal made it 6-3, but LoRicco and Scorcia closed out the quarter with goals to put Mercy ahead 8-3 at halftime.

Molloy scored the first two goals of the third quarter to get within three, 8-5, with 7:13 remaining in the quarter. Kearnan answered with two straight goals to increase the Mercy lead back to five, 10-5, after three quarters.

Mercy posted the first five goals of the fourth quarter to take a commanding 15-5 lead with 5:22 remaining. Gibbons scored twice and LoRicco, Scorcia and Calabria also scored to give the Mavericks a 10-goal lead. Egan scored his final goal of the day at the 3:34 mark to make it 15-6 before Gabrinowitz scored less than a minute later to put the finishing touches on the Mercy win.

Mercy held a 45-31 edge in shots, a 35-22 edge in ground balls and went 20-for-24 on face-offs.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, May 8th when they play in the ECC Championship Game at 3 p.m. at Mercy Field.
