ECC Men's and Women's Lacrosse Championship Fields Announced; Mercy to Host Finals

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (May 3, 2021) - The brackets for the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's and Women's Lacrosse Championships have been finalized. A semifinal for the men will take place on Wednesday, May 5th. The semifinals for the women will take place on Thursday, May 6th. The championship games will take place on Saturday, May 8th at Mercy College. The women's final will start at 11 a.m. followed by the men's at 3 p.m.

The men, making their sixth consecutive appearance in the championships, will earn a bye into the final after finishing as the No. 1 seed and earning their second straight ECC Regular Season Championship. Mercy will face the winner of No. 2 Roberts Wesleyan/No. 3 Molloy in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. Mercy went through ECC play undefeated for the second time and went 8-1 during the regular season. The Mavericks defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 10-9, at Mercy Field on March 20th in overtime and beat Molloy twice this season by scores of 16-7 and 16-6. Mercy is looking to win their second straight ECC Tournament Championship. The Mavericks are currently ranked No. 8 in the USILA Coaches Poll and are among the teams under consideration for an NCAA Tournament berth in the North Region.

The women, making their fifth straight appearance in the ECC Championships, earned the top seed after winning their second straight regular season championship. The Mavericks will host No. 4 seed St. Thomas Aquinas in a semifinal on Thursday at 2 p.m. The winner of Thursday's game will face the winner of No. 2 Roberts Wesleyan/No. 3 Molloy in the championship game on Saturday at 11 a.m. Mercy is looking to win their second straight ECC Tournament Championship. The Mavericks went a perfect 5-0 in ECC play and went 11-1 during the regular season. Mercy defeated STAC twice this season by scores of 18-6 and 17-3. Mercy also defeated Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, 12-6, and beat Molloy twice by scores of 10-1 and 15-6. The Mavericks lone loss of the season came to Roberts Wesleyan on March 20th in overtime. The Mavericks are currently ranked No. 16 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and are among the teams under consideration for an NCAA Tournament berth in the East Region.
