STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2022) – Powered by a game-high two goals from junior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) and freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the No. 15 Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 6-0 win over ECC foe College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park.
The Mavericks (11-2, 6-0 ECC) have won 11 of their last 12 games and start 6-0 in ECC play for the first time since 2014. Mercy also secures their ninth straight ECC Championship berth with the win. The Dolphins (1-8-1, 1-4 ECC) have dropped two games in a row.
Camacho and Dixon each added an assist to go along with their two goals. Camacho now has a team-high 10 goals and 25 points to go along with five assists. Dixon has eight goals, 23 points and a team-high seven assists. Junior Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley) added her fourth goal of the season and senior Dominique Bono (Islip, N.Y./New York Tech) scored her first goal of the season. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez (Oceanside, N.Y./New York Tech) dished out her fourth assist of the year, junior Skyler Schwenkler (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) added her second assist of the year and freshman Rita-Marie Masi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) picked up her first collegiate assist. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) played the first 62 minutes in goal with one save to earn the win. Freshman Gina Boggs (Upland, Calif./Upland) played the final 28 minutes in goal with one save.
Staten Island was led by Nadia Evola who had a team-high two shots. Sara Villacres allowed four goals in 59 minutes of action with two saves to take the loss.
Dixon opened the scoring in the 12th minute of action when she scored after a pass from Bermudez and Schwenkler to make it 1-0. Camacho later made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when she fired home a shot attempt by Dixon. The score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.
Silva increased the Mercy lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute and Bono made it 4-0 less than a minute later after a Camacho assist.
Camacho recorded her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute to make it 5-0. Dixon concluded the scoring in the 73rd minute, after an assist from Masi, to put the Mavericks up, 6-0.
Mercy's defense surrendered just two shots on goal in the game to earn the convincing win.
Mercy held a 19-4 edge in shots and an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, October 19th when they play at Lincoln at 3 p.m.
