Eight Mavericks Score as No. 19 Women's Soccer Earns 11-0 Win Over Lincoln

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2022) – Powered by eight different Mavericks scoring, the No. 19 Mercy College women's soccer team earned an 11-0 win over ECC foe Lincoln University on Wednesday afternoon at Lincoln University Stadium.

The Mavericks (12-2, 7-0 ECC) have won two games in a row and improve to 7-0 in ECC play for the first time since 2014. The Lions (1-11, 0-6 ECC) remain winless in ECC play. The 11 goals scored by Mercy is a season high.

Graduate student Nikki Bermudez (Oceanside, N.Y./New York Tech) had a game-high seven points on a game-high three goals with one assist. Bermudez now has nine goals, five assists and 23 points on the year. Freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) recorded a game-high four assists and now has a team-high 11 assists with 27 points. Junior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) netted her team-leading 11th goal of the season and also has a team-high 27 points. Senior Dominique Bono (Islip, N.Y./New York Tech) picked up her second goal of the season and first assist and sophomore Isabella Messina (Huntington Beach, Calif./Saddleback College) had her second goal and first assist of the season. Freshman Emma Best (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) scored two goals and now has three on the year and graduate student Jessica Hoyt (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) tallied her fifth goal of the year. Graduate student Sydney Cooper (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) picked up her second goal of the year and junior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) scored her first goal of the season. Junior Skyler Schwenkler (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) dished out her third assist of the season and graduate student Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon) added her third assist. Junior Toni Valadez (Westminster, Calif./Pacifica) had her first assist of the season and freshman Gina Boggs (Upland, Calif./Upland) made her first collegiate start without facing a shot on goal to earn the win.

Lincoln was led by Parker Moss who had two shots. Niani Randall made 12 saves to take the loss.

Bermudez opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, off an assist from Dixon, to make it 1-0. Rosa later made it 2-0 in the 6th minute after a Bono pass and Dixon found Bermudez again for her second goal of the day in the 9th minute to make it 3-0.

Bono increased the Mercy lead to 4-0 in the 23rd minute, off assists from Dixon and Bermudez. Bermudez completed the hat-trick in the 25th minute to make it 5-0. Messina, Best and Hoyt capped off the scoring in the half to send the Mavericks into halftime with an 8-0 lead.

Camacho gave the Mavericks a 9-0 lead in the 51st minute and Cooper scored just over a minute later to give Mercy double-digits goals. Best netted the final Mavericks goal in the 81st minute, following a Messina assist, to make it 11-0. Mercy cruised the rest of the way without allowing a shot on goal for the entire game to earn the win.

Mercy held a 37-2 edge in shots and a 23-0 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 29th when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
