Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 6-0 win over Staten Island on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by junior Kayla Camacho and freshman Ancksu Dixon who both had two goals and an assist. Senior Dominique Bono and junior Jennifer Silva also scored. Last week, Camacho was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Silva was tabbed to the Honor Roll. On September 26th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Kamy Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and graduate student Jessica Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. Mercy is looking to start 7-0 in ECC play for the first time since 2014. Mercy is ranked No. 15 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and second in the East Region. The Mavericks have secured their ninth straight ECC Championship berth. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and graduate student Sydney Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez has six goals and is third on the team with 16 points on the season. Camacho has a team-high 25 points and 10 goals with five assists. Dixon is second on the team with 23 points on eight goals and a team-high seven assists. Graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and two assists, Hoyt has four goals and Silva has four goals and an assist. Juniors Toni Valadez, Marlene Avalos and Schwenkler, Bono and sophomore Isabella Messina also have a goal on the season. Rosa has five assists and graduate student Sydney Cooper has a goal and three assists on the year. Anaya has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 11-2 in goal this season with 37 saves, a .841 save percentage and 0.58 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.
Scouting the Lions
Lincoln is coming off a 5-0 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday. The Lions were picked ninth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 0-14 overall and 0-9 in ECC play. Lincoln earned their lone win of the season on October 12th against Trinity (D.C.) by a score of 14-0. The 14-goal margin of victory was the largest in school history. The Lions are led by Parker Moss who has a team-high 10 points on a team-high four goals and two assists. Jolyn Walleekendeh has six points on two goals and two assists and Justyce King has five points on two goals and an assist. Ida Rose Moore is 1-3 in goal with a .697 save percentage, 23 saves and 3.29 goals-against average.
