Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 4-0 loss to Saint Anselm on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Lauren Viscione and sophomore Alexandra Giordano who combined for 14 saves. Viscione was named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week, graduate student Alyssa Sacco was named Player of the Week and junior Flynn Kirk was named to the Honor Roll last week. Viscione was also tabbed to the Synapse Sports Division II Honor Roll. Junior Ally Schreck and Viscione were named to the NE10 Honor Roll on October 10th. Viscione, junior Rachel Palladino, and sophomore Kasey Volz were named to the NE10 Honor Roll on September 27th. The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history and look to start 5-4 for the first time ever. Mercy is also off to their best NE10 start and looks to start 4-4 in NE10 play for the first time. With a win over Adelphi, the Mavericks would have their most wins in a season since 2018 and most NE10 wins in program history. Mercy is 0-8 all-time against the Panthers dating back to 2011. The Mavericks have been led by Sacco who has a team-high 14 points on a team-high six goals with two assists. Palladino is third on the team with seven points by way of a goal with a team-high five assists. Schreck is fourth on the team with five points on two goals and an assist. Rosenfeld has two goals and junior Rieley Fitzgerald is second on the team with eight points on two goals and four assists. Volz scored the game-winning goal in the win over Molloy on September 20th. Viscione is 4-4 in goal with 68 saves, a .782 save percentage and 2.50 goals-against average. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Rosenfeld and Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Panthers
Adelphi earned a 5-0 win over Saint Michael's on Saturday for their second straight win. The Panthers were picked fourth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 14-7 last season, losing in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Adelphi is led by senior Kaylee Deleva who has a team-high seven goals and a team-high-tying 15 points. Senior Bianca Bachisin also has a team-high-tying 15 points on six goals and three assists. Sophomore Amanda Lee has five goals and a team-high-tying four assists and senior Giana Mckeough has three goals and a team-high-tying four assists. Freshman Mirthe Karstens is 3-5 in goal with 78 saves, a .788 save percentage and 2.47 goals-against average. Junior Amanda Montiel is 3-1 in goal with 19 saves, a .792 save percentage and 1.64 goals-against average.
