Game Preview: Field Hockey Faces Franklin Pierce and Frostburg State This Weekend

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2022) – The Mercy College field hockey team plays at NE10 foe Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, October 29th at 11 a.m. before hosting Frostburg State University on Sunday, October 30th at 11 a.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Adelphi on Tuesday. The Mavericks were led by junior Ally Schreck who scored and by graduate student Lauren Viscione who made 13 saves. Junior Victoria Devlin was named to the NE10 Honor Roll on Monday after recording two defensive saves against Saint Anselm. Viscione was named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week, graduate student Alyssa Sacco was named Player of the Week and junior Flynn Kirk was named to the Honor Roll on October 17th. Viscione was also tabbed to the Synapse Sports Division II Honor Roll. Junior Ally Schreck and Viscione were named to the NE10 Honor Roll on October 10th. Viscione, junior Rachel Palladino, and sophomore Kasey Volz were named to the NE10 Honor Roll on September 27th. The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history and look to start 6-5 for the first time ever. Mercy is also off to their best NE10 start and looks to start 4-5 in NE10 play for the first time. With a win over Franklin Pierce, the Mavericks would have their most wins in a season since 2018 and most NE10 wins in program history. Mercy is 3-3 all-time against Franklin Pierce and are 1-0 all-time against Frostburg State. The Mavericks have been led by Sacco who has a team-high 14 points on a team-high six goals with two assists. Palladino is third on the team with seven points by way of a goal with a team-high five assists. Schreck is tied for third on the team with seven points on three goals and an assist. Rosenfeld has two goals and junior Rieley Fitzgerald is second on the team with eight points on two goals and four assists. Junior Katie Ringstad has a goal and three assists on the season and Devlin and Kirk both have a team-high four defensive saves. Volz scored the game-winning goal in the win over Molloy on September 20th. Viscione is 4-5 in goal with 81 saves, a .794 save percentage and 2.42 goals-against average. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Rosenfeld and Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.

Scouting the Ravens

Franklin Pierce dropped a 6-2 decision to Saint Anselm in their last game on Wednesday. The Ravens were picked 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 3-15 last season. Franklin Pierce is led by sophomore Caity Hazley who has a team-high 14 points on a team-high six goals with two assists. Senior Gabi Sturgeon has nine points on four goals and an assist and sophomore Rebecca Phillips has three goals and two assists. Seniors Christine Jarowicz and Meghan Winn both have a team-high three assists. Sophomore Addy Araneo is 4-5 in goal with 79 saves, a .731 save percentage and 3.14 goals-against average.

Scouting the Bobcats

Frostburg is coming off a 3-2 loss to No. 8 Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday. The Bobcats will face No. 2 East Stroudsburg on Saturday before playing at Mercy in their season finale on Sunday. Frostburg is led by Emilie Bonhivert who has a team-high 14 points on six goals and two assists. Femke Hofkamp is second on the team with 13 points on four goals and a team-high five assists. Olivia Wenzel is third with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Madison Manalansan is 7-9 in goal with 77 saves, a .713 save percentage and 2.07 goals-against average.

Mercy resumes action on Wednesday, November 2nd when they play at Molloy at 3:30 p.m.
