Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off an 11-0 win over Lincoln on October 19th. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez had a game-high seven points on three goals and an assist and freshman Ancksu Dixon had four assists. Freshman Emma Best scored two goals and five other Mavericks scored in the win. After the win, Bermudez and Dixon were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll. On October 17th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Kayla Camacho was named to the Honor Roll. On October 11th, Camacho was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Silva was tabbed to the Honor Roll. On September 26th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Kamy Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and graduate student Jessica Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. Mercy is looking to go undefeated in ECC play for the first time in program history and win their first outright ECC Regular Season Championship in program history. The Mavericks have secured the No. 1 seed in the ECC Championship for the first time and will host either Roberts Wesleyan or Daemen in a Semifinal matchup on Wednesday, November 2nd at 2:30 p.m. Mercy is ranked No. 20 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and third in the latest NCAA East Regional Rankings. The Mavericks have secured their ninth straight ECC Championship berth. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and graduate student Sydney Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez has nine goals and is third on the team with 23 points on the season. Camacho has a team-high-tying 27 points and a team-high 11 goals with five assists. Dixon also has a team-high-tying 27 points on eight goals and a team-high 11 assists. Graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and three assists, Hoyt has five goals and Silva has four goals and an assist. Juniors Toni Valadez, Marlene Avalos and Skyler Schwenkler also have goals. Senior Dominque Bono and sophomore Isabella Messina have two goals on the season. Junior Madison Rosa has five assists and a goal and graduate student Sydney Cooper has two goals and three assists on the year. Anaya has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 11-2 in goal this season with 37 saves, a .841 save percentage and 0.58 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.
Scouting the Redhawks
Roberts Wesleyan is coming off a 4-0 loss to Daemen last Saturday. The Redhawks were picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 7-8-1 last season. Roberts Wesleyan has secured an ECC Championship berth. The Redhawks would be the No. 3 seed in the tournament if they win or draw against Mercy and would be the No. 4 seed with a loss to Mercy and a Daemen win. Roberts Wesleyan is led by freshman Ella White who has a team-high 22 points on 11 goals. Junior Gabrielle Ciambella has 13 points on four goals and five assists and freshman Kaeleigh Romero has nine points on three goals and three assists. Junior Nicolette Knauf is 10-3 in goal with 33 saves, a .717 save percentage and 1.02 goals-against average.
