Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 2-0 loss to Bentley on September 24th. The Mavericks were led by senior Lauren Viscione who made seven saves and by junior Rachel Palladino who recorded a shot on goal. Viscione, Palladino and sophomore Kasey Volz were named to the NE10 Honor Roll last week. Mercy has been led by Palladino and graduate student Alyssa Sacco who both have a goal and an assist on the year. Volz scored the game-winning goal in the win over Molloy on September 20th. Mercy is 2-5 all-time against Southern Connecticut State and have won two of the last three meetings. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is junior Ally Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Juniors Kelly Rosenfeld and Rieley Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Sophomore Alexandra Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Owls
Southern Connecticut is coming off a 2-0 win over American International on Friday. The Owls have won three of their last four games after starting the season 0-3. Southern Connecticut was picked 12th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 3-14 last season. The Owls have already matched their win total from all of last year. Sophomore Trinidad Rodriguez-Ricchiuti has a team-high 10 points on four goals and two assists and senior Abbey Kellerman is second on the team with three goals and six points. Junior Brianna Caffrey has two goals and an assist and junior Kayla Siemer has a goal and an assist. Freshman Kaitlyn Parent is 3-3 in goal with 49 saves, a .690 save percentage and 3.21 goals-against average.
