Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 3-1 win over Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by junior Rieley Fitzgerald who had a goal and an assist and by junior Kelly Rosenfeld and graduate student Alyssa Sacco who also scored. Junior Rachel Palladino dished out a game-high two assists and graduate student Lauren Viscione had two saves. Viscione, Palladino and sophomore Kasey Volz were named to the NE10 Honor Roll last week. The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history and look to start 3-1 for the first time ever. Mercy is also off to their best NE10 start and looks to start 2-1 in NE10 play for the first time. The Mavericks have been led by Sacco and Palladino who both have a team-high five points. Sacco has a team-high two goals with one assist and Palladino has a goal with a team-high three assists. Volz scored the game-winning goal in the win over Molloy on September 20th. Mercy is 3-5 all-time against AIC and have won three of the last four meetings. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is junior Ally Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Rosenfeld and Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Sophomore Alexandra Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
AIC fell 2-1 to New Haven in their last game on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets were picked 10th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 6-12 last season. AIC has been led by junior Morgan Martellio and Na'Bree Wallace who both have a team-high two goals with a team-high-tying four points. Graduate student Shannon Cormier and sophomore Logan Shunney both have a team-high-tying two assists to go along with four points. Junior Brooke Szafran has a goal and an assist. Taylor Wildes is 2-7 in goal with 61 saves, a 2.43 goals-against average and .726 save percentage.
