Camacho Scores Game-High Two Goals as No. 15 Women's Soccer Earns 4-0 Win Over STAC

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2022) – Powered by a game-high two goals from junior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream), the No. 15 Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (10-1, 5-0 ECC) have won 10 games in a row and improve to 7-0 at home. Mercy starts 5-0 in ECC play for the second straight season and has their first 10-game winning streak since 2017. The Mavericks also record double-digit wins in a season for the sixth straight season. The Spartans (2-8-2, 1-4 ECC) have now dropped nine games in a row to Mercy.

Camacho now has a team-high eight goals and 20 points and junior Marlene Avalos (San Diego, Calif./Otay Ranch) recorded her first goal of the season to go along with her first assist of the season. Junior Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley) scored her third goal of the season and freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) dished out her team-leading sixth assist of the season. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made one save in the first half to earn the win. Freshman Gina Boggs (Upland, Calif./Upland) made two saves in the second half.

St. Thomas Aquinas was led by Emily Ras who had a team-high two shots on goal and by Colleen Stevens who had a game-high 10 saves.

Silva got the Mavericks on the board in the 10th minute of action to give Mercy a 1-0 lead. The junior fired a free kick from just outside the box into the lower left corner of the net to give the Mavericks an early lead.

Camacho later made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute after receiving a ball from Avalos. Camacho had her initial shot stopped by Stevens but hammered home the rebound to give the Mavericks a two-goal lead.

Camacho netted her second goal of the day in the 24th minute when her shot deflected off a Spartan defender and into the goal to make it 3-0. The Mavericks headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Avalos scored the lone goal of the second half in the 59th minute to give Mercy a 4-0 lead. Dixon fed Avalos a through ball and the junior found the lower right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Mercy cruised the rest of the way, earning the 4-0 win.

Mercy held a 26-6 edge in shots and a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Monday, October 10th when they play at Bentley at 3 p.m.
