WALTHAM, Mass. (Oct. 10, 2022) – Despite a goal from freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the No. 15 Mercy College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Bentley University on Monday afternoon.
The Mavericks (10-2) see their 10-game winning streak come to an end, while the Falcons (4-5-3) snap a four-game winless streak.
Dixon now has six goals and 18 points on the year. Junior Skyler Schwenkler (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) recorded her first assist of the season and junior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) dished out her fifth assist of the year. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made four saves to take the loss.
Bentley was led by Liliana Silva and Jillian Hendriksen who both scored. Claire Ewen played the first half in goal and made four saves to earn the win. Holly DiPalo made four saves in the second half.
Silva gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a shot that found the upper right corner of the net.
Bentley increased the lead to 2-0 when Hendriksen headed in a Brooke Jones corner kick in the 32nd minute. Ewen made four saves in the opening half to keep the Falcons ahead 2-0 at halftime.
The score remained 2-0 until the 59th minute when Dixon found the back of the net off a double assist from Schwenkler and Rosa to make it 2-1.
Mercy continued to apply pressure to the Bentley backline, forcing DiPalo to make three saves. However, the Mavericks could not the find equalizer and the Falcons came away with the win.
Mercy held an 18-8 edge in shots and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 15th when they play at Staten Island at 11 a.m.
