Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 4-2 win over AIC on Friday. The Mavericks were led by junior Ally Schreck who had a game-high two goals with one assist. Junior Kelly Rosenfeld also scored and graduate student Alyssa Sacco had a goal and an assist. Junior Rachel Palladino added an assist and senior Lauren Viscione made six saves to earn the win. Viscione, Palladino and sophomore Kasey Volz were named to the NE10 Honor Roll last week. The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history and look to start 4-1 for the first time ever. Mercy is also off to their best NE10 start and looks to start 3-1 in NE10 play for the first time. With a win over Pace, the Mavericks would match their win total from all of last year both overall and in NE10 play. The Mavericks have been led by Sacco who has a team-high eight points on a team-high three goals with two assists. Palladino is second on the team with six points by way of a goal with a team-high four assists. Schreck is third on the team with five points on two goals and an assist. Rosenfeld has two goals and junior Rieley Fitzgerald has a goal and an assist. Volz scored the game-winning goal in the win over Molloy on September 20th. Viscione is 3-1 in goal with 17 saves, a .708 save percentage and 1.75 goals-against average. Mercy is 1-4 all-time against Pace with the lone win coming in 2019 at Mercy Field. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Rosenfeld and Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Sophomore Alexandra Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Setters
Pace dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to No. 8 Assumption on Saturday. The Setters were picked fifth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 14-6 last season, falling in the NE10 Semifinals. Pace is led by sophomore Krista Dietz who has a team-high nine points on two goals and a team-high five assists. Freshman Sydney Sims is second on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists and sophomore Noelle Meij has three goals. Freshman Tavia Flecksteiner has two goals and an assist and junior Julia Eshleman has two goals. Freshman Alina Buerger is 5-5 in goal with 61 saves, a .792 save percentage and 1.57 goals-against average.
