Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 3-1 win over New Haven on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by junior Kelly Rosenfeld who scored two goals and by graduate student Alyssa Sacco who had a goal and an assist. Graduate student Lauren Viscione made a game-high 13 saves. Junior Ally Schreck was tabbed to the NE10 Honor Roll on Monday after scoring two goals in the win over Molloy last Wednesday. Junior Victoria Devlin was named to the NE10 Honor Roll for the second straight week and graduate student Lauren Viscione was also named to the Honor Roll last week. Viscione was named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week, Sacco was named Player of the Week and junior Flynn Kirk was named to the Honor Roll on October 17th. Viscione was also tabbed to the Synapse Sports Division II Honor Roll. Schreck and Viscione were named to the NE10 Honor Roll on October 10th. Viscione, junior Rachel Palladino, and sophomore Kasey Volz were named to the NE10 Honor Roll on September 27th. The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history and look to start 8-7 for the first time ever. Mercy is also off to their best NE10 start and looks to start 7-6 in NE10 play for the first time. With a win over Saint Michael's, the Mavericks would set a new school record for wins in a season and currently have their most NE10 wins in program history. The Mavericks currently sit in a tie for eighth in the NE10 standings. The top eight teams make the NE10 Championship. Mercy is 1-3 all-time against Saint Michael's dating back to 2015. The Mavericks have been led by Sacco who has a team-high 21 points on a team-high eight goals with five assists. Sacco is one goal away from setting a school record for goals in a season and is two points away from setting a school record for points in a season. Palladino is fourth on the team with 10 points by way of two goals with a team-high six assists. Schreck is second on the team with 13 points on six goals and an assist. Junior Kelly Rosenfeld has four goals and junior Rieley Fitzgerald is third on the team with 11 points on three goals and a team-high-tying five assists. Junior Katie Ringstad has a goal and five assists on the season and Kirk has a team-high seven defensive saves. Volz scored the game-winning goal in the win over Molloy on September 20th. Viscione is 7-7 in goal with 120 saves, a .789 save percentage and 2.47 goals-against average. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Rosenfeld and Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Sophomore Alexandra Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Purple Knights
Saint Michael's is coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Bentley on Monday. The Purple Knights were picked ninth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 5-13 last season. Saint Michael's is led by junior Bridgie Loughlin who has a team-high 19 points on a team-high eight goals with three assists. Sophomore Addy Fenton has seven points on three goals and an assist and senior Erickson Richard has two goals and three assists. Junior Madeleine Biondi has three goals and junior Courtney Watt is 3-5 in goal with 88 saves, a .772 save percentage and 3.25 goals-against average. Sophomore Riley O'Connor is 2-6 in goal with 79 saves, a .806 save percentage and 2.33 goals-against average.
