Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off their third ECC Championship with a penalty kick shootout win over Molloy on Saturday. Freshman Kamy Anaya was named the Championship's Most Outstanding Player. The Mavericks are making their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh appearance in program history. Mercy looks to advance to the Second Round for the third straight season. The Mavericks are looking to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. Mercy is 2-11-1 against Adelphi and last met in the NCAA Tournament in 2013 with Adelphi earning a 5-0 win. The winner of Friday's game would face the winner of Saint Rose/Jefferson on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Saint Rose. The furthest run Mercy has made in the tournament was in 2017 when they advanced to the Final Four. Mercy is 0-7-2 all-time against Saint Rose and is 3-0-1 against Jefferson. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez and Dixon were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on October 24th. On October 17th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Kayla Camacho was named to the Honor Roll. On October 11th, Camacho was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Jennifer Silva was tabbed to the Honor Roll. On September 26th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and graduate student Jessica Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. Mercy secured their first-ever outright ECC Regular Season Championship. The Mavericks were the No. 1 seed in the ECC Championship for the first time. Mercy made their ninth straight appearance in the ECC Championship. The Mavericks also won the championship in 2014 and 2017. Mercy is ranked No. 21 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and graduate student Sydney Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Year and has nine goals and is third on the team with 23 points on the season. First Team All-ECC selection Camacho has 27 points and a team-high 11 goals with five assists. ECC Rookie of the Year Dixon also has a team-high 29 points on nine goals and a team-high 11 assists. Third Team All-ECC selection graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and three assists, Hoyt has five goals and an assist and Second Team All-ECC selection Silva has four goals and an assist. Juniors Toni Valadez, Marlene Avalos and Third Team All-ECC selection Skyler Schwenkler also have goals. Senior Dominque Bono and sophomore Isabella Messina have two goals on the season. Third Team All-ECC selection junior Madison Rosa has six assists and two goals and ECC Defensive Player of the Year graduate student Sydney Cooper has two goals and three assists on the year. Anaya was named ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 12-2-2 in goal this season with 39 saves, a .848 save percentage and 0.46 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.
Scouting the Panthers
Adelphi is coming off a 4-0 loss to Saint Rose in the NE10 Championship Final on Sunday. The Panthers are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in five years. Adelphi made their first NE10 Championship final appearance since 2015. The Panthers are led by freshman Madison Apicella who was named NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year after leading Adelphi with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points. Victoria Colatosti is second on the team with 15 points on seven goals and one assist and Maria D'Angelo is third on the team with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Alexa Mihale has three goals and four assists. Krista Aliscio is 10-3-2 in goal with 36 saves, a .706 save percentage and 1.06 goals-against average. Lydia Fraga Cordoba is 2-2 with 32 saves, a .821 save percentage and 1.39 goals-against average.
Scouting the Golden Knights
The Golden Knights defeated Adelphi 4-0 on Sunday to win their 10th NE10 championship in program history. Saint Rose looks to make their third straight appearance in the Final Four. The Golden Knights face Jefferson for the second straight year in the First Round. Last season, Saint Rose advanced following penalty kicks. The Golden Knights are led by Mia Klammer who has a team-high 30 points on eight goals and a team-high 14 assists. Kaelyn Britt has a team-high 10 goals and is second on the team with 21 points. Lauren Amerena is third on the team with 18 points on six goals and six assists. Pia Bozic is 17-0-3 in goal with 52 saves, a .881 save percentage and 0.40 goals-against average.
Scouting the Rams
Jefferson fell to Caldwell 2-1 in the CACC Quarterfinals on October 31st. The Rams are making their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth overall. Jefferson received an at-large bid for the first time in program history. The Rams are led by Nikki Dedes who has a team-high 29 points and 13 goals with three assists. Laural Erick is second on the team with 14 points on four goals and a team-high six assists. Kiery Spatz is second on the team with five goals and Avery Nogami and Mia Ferrara both have four assists. Jaclyn Martino is 4-3-1 in goal with 31 saves, a .756 save percentage and 1.25 goals-against average and Liv Riddel is 4-2 in goal with 18 saves, a .643 save percentage and 1.33 goals-against average.
