Schreck Scores Game-High Two Goals as Field Hockey Earns 3-0 Win Over Molloy

SEAFORD, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2022) – Powered by a game-high two goals from junior Ally Schreck (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), the Mercy College field hockey team earned a 3-0 win over NE10 foe Molloy University on Wednesday afternoon at Cedar Creek Park.

The Mavericks (6-6, 5-5 NE10) have won two of their last three games and sweep the season series with the Lions (1-13, 0-10 NE10). Mercy now has their most wins in a season since 2018 and have their most NE10 wins in a season. The Mavericks continue their best start in program history.

Schreck now has six goals and 13 points. Senior Lily Sherry (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) also scored her first goal of the season and graduate student Alyssa Sacco (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) dished out her fourth assist of the season. Junior Rachel Palladino (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) added her team-leading sixth assist of the season and junior Kate Ringstad (Woodstock, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) recorded her fourth assist of the season. Graduate student Lauren Viscione (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) made one save to earn the win in goal.

Molloy was led by Ally Saigh who made eight saves in 45 minutes of action.

The game remained scoreless until the 6th minute when Schreck netted her first goal after a pass from Palladino to make it 1-0. The score stayed 1-0 heading into the second quarter.

Saigh made three saves in the second quarter to keep the score at 1-0 at halftime.

Mercy made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when Schreck scored again, following an assist from Sacco, to give the Mavericks a two-goal lead. Just over two minutes later, Sherry netted the final Mercy goal, off an assist from Ringstad, to give the Mavericks a 3-0 lead. Mercy headed into the fourth quarter with a 3-0 lead.

Viscione made her lone save of the game in the 56th minute to keep the shutout intact and the Mavericks held on for the 3-0 lead.

Mercy held a 23-4 edge in shots and a 17-1 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, November 5th when they play at No. 6 Assumption at 1 p.m.
