Game Preview: No. 1 Women's Soccer Hosts No. 2 Molloy in ECC Women's Soccer Championship Final on Saturday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2022) – The No. 1 seed Mercy College women's soccer team hosts No. 2 seed Molloy University in the ECC Women's Soccer Championship Final on Saturday, November 5th at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off a 2-0 win over Daemen in the ECC Semifinals on Wednesday. Junior Madison Rosa scored a goal and had an assist and freshman Ancksu Dixon also scored. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez and Dixon were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll last week. On October 17th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Kayla Camacho was named to the Honor Roll. On October 11th, Camacho was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Jennifer Silva was tabbed to the Honor Roll. On September 26th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Kamy Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and graduate student Jessica Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. Mercy secured their first-ever outright ECC Regular Season Championship last weekend. The Mavericks are the No. 1 seed in the ECC Championship for the first time. Mercy is making their ninth straight appearance in the ECC Championship and are looking to win their third ECC Championship. The Mavericks previously won the championship in 2014 and 2017. Mercy has advanced to the Final for the second straight year and fifth time in program history. The Mavericks are facing Molloy in the Final for the second straight year. Molloy earned a 1-0 double-overtime win in the Final last year at Molloy. The winner of Saturday's game secures a berth into the NCAA Tournament. Mercy is ranked No. 21 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and fourth in the latest NCAA East Regional Rankings. Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and graduate student Sydney Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez has nine goals and is third on the team with 23 points on the season. Camacho has 27 points and a team-high 11 goals with five assists. Dixon also has a team-high 29 points on nine goals and a team-high 11 assists. Graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and three assists, Hoyt has five goals and an assist and Silva has four goals and an assist. Juniors Toni Valadez, Marlene Avalos and Skyler Schwenkler also have goals. Senior Dominque Bono and sophomore Isabella Messina have two goals on the season. Junior Madison Rosa has six assists and two goals and graduate student Sydney Cooper has two goals and three assists on the year. Anaya has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 12-2-1 in goal this season with 39 saves, a .848 save percentage and 0.50 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.

Scouting the Lions

Molloy is coming off a 2-1 win over Roberts Wesleyan in an ECC Semifinal on Wednesday. The Lions are making their third straight appearance in the Final and look to win their third straight ECC Championship. The Lions are currently ranked No. 8 in the latest NCAA East Regional Rankings and are looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. Molloy is led by junior Sarah Tappeto who has a team-high 21 points on two goals and an ECC-best 17 assists. Senior Sienna Nicolich is second on the team with 20 points on seven goals and six assists and freshman Mikaela Barriga has seven goals. Freshman Morgan Camarda has five goals and four assists and junior Eleni Sofroniou has five goals and an assist. Junior Shannon Kilian is 12-4-2 in goal with 59 saves, a .776 save percentage and 0.94 goals-against average.
