Carter Collins got the Dolphins on the scoreboard just 34 seconds later to make it 3-1. Calabria and Scorcia ended the quarter with back-to-back goals to give Mercy a 5-1 lead over the defending National Champions after one quarter of play.

Pierce scored the first goal of the second quarter to get the visitors within three, 5-2. Kearnan picked up his second goal of the game at the 12:44 mark to once again give Mercy a four-goal lead, 6-2. Back-to-back goals from Le Moyne made it 6-4 with 8:29 left in the quarter. Eccles scored the final goal of the half with 26 seconds left, following an assist from Kearnan, to put the Mavericks up 7-4 at halftime.

Mercy maintained a three-goal lead until the 8:15 mark of the third quarter when Pierce scored again to make it 7-5. Kevin Sheehan added a goal just over a minute later to get Le Moyne within one, 7-6. Ben McCreary scored the final goal of the quarter to tie the game at 7-7 after three quarters.

The game remained tied until the 6:05 mark of the fourth quarter when Collins took the ball from behind the net and finished himself to give the visitors an 8-7 lead. Delia made six saves in the fourth quarter to keep the Mavericks from scoring and stopped nine shots in the second half overall to keep Mercy from scoring in the second half.
