DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 26, 2022) – Mercy College men's lacrosse seniors Brady Kearnan and Jack Gibbons have been named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) First Team All-American, graduate student Dominic Scorcia, seniors Jack Kipnes and Tommy Umano and junior Justin Gerdvil have been tabbed Third Team All-American and graduate student Matt Eccles, senior Sean Rigley, junior PJ Argiros and sophomore Tyler Pjatak received Honorable Mention accolades. The 10 All-Americans are the most in program history and the most in a single season for any Mercy program in school history.
Kearnan is named First Team All-American for the first time by the USILA after being named to the Second Team last year. The senior was named USILA First Team All-Region earlier this week after being named First Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine last week. The senior was named ECC Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ECC and ECC Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Kearnan was a one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week and leads the Mavericks with 80 points on 38 goals and 42 assists. The one-time USILA Division II Team of the Week recipient had a season-high 10 points on four goals and six assists in the win over Georgian Court on February 22nd.
Gibbons is named First Team All-American for the first time after being named Second Team All-American last year. The senior was named USILA First Team All-Region for the second straight year after being named Second Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine last week. The senior was named First Team All-ECC after being named to the ECC Honor Roll once during the season. Gibbons ranks third on the team with 47 points on 30 goals and 17 assists. He had a season-high six points on a goal and five assists in the Mavericks win over Molloy on March 26th.
Scorcia is named All-American by the USILA for the first time. The graduate student was named USILA Second Team All-Region for the first time after being named Honorable Mention last year. The graduate student was named First Team All-ECC after being named ECC Offensive Player of the Week. Scorcia is second on the team with 73 points by way of a single-season school record 51 goals and 22 assists. The graduate student scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against Le Moyne on Sunday.
Kipnes is named All-American for the second straight year after being an Honorable Mention selection last year. He was named USILA Second Team All-Region after being named Third Team All-Region last year. He was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week twice. The senior has started 15 games and has 41 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.
Umano takes home All-American honors for the first time. The senior was named USILA Second Team All-Region for the first time after being Honorable Mention last year. The senior was named ECC Goalkeeper of the Year after being named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice. The goalkeeper is 16-1 in goal with a .585 save percentage, 8.36 goals-against average and 162 saves. He leads the ECC in goals-against average and is second in save percentage. Umano had a season-high 16 saves in the win over Le Moyne on Sunday.
Gerdvil is named Third Team All-American for the second straight year. He was tabbed USILA Second Team All-Region for the second straight year. He was named Second Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine last week and was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year and ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The First Team All-ECC selection currently has 45 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers in 17 games.
Eccles is named an All-American in his lone season as a Maverick. He received USILA All-Region Honorable Mention accolades in his lone season as a Maverick. The graduate student was named First Team All-ECC and ranks fifth on the team in points with 35 by way of 22 goals and 13 assists. He had a season-high-tying three goals in the win over Le Moyne on Sunday.
Rigley takes home All-American honors for the second straight year after being a Third Team honoree last year. He was named USILA Third Team All-Region after being named Second Team All-Region last year. The senior has started all 17 games and has 16 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers.
Argiros receives All-American recognition in his first season as a Maverick. He was named USILA All-Region Honorable Mention earlier this week. The junior has gone 135-for-227 (.595) on faceoffs and has a team-high 74 ground balls on the year. He was named to the ECC Honor Roll once and has a goal and two assists on the year.
Pjatak is named an All-American for the first time. He was named USILA Third Team All-Region for the first time after being named Second Team All-ECC. The sophomore was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week once and has 17 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls in 17 games.
