Four Mavericks Score as No. 25 Women's Soccer Earns 4-0 Win Over D'Youville

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2022) – Powered by four different Mavericks scoring, the No. 25 Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over ECC foe D'Youville University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (6-1, 2-0 ECC) have won six games in a row and start 6-1 for the first time since 2018. The Saints (2-5, 1-1 ECC) lose their first ECC game of the season.

Graduate student Nikki Bermudez (Oceanside, N.Y./New York Tech) had a game-high four points on a goal and two assists and now has a team-high-tying five goals on the year. Junior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) recorded her team-high-tying fifth goal of the season and graduate students Jessica Hoyt (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon) both netted their second goals of the season. Freshman Trinity Valenzuela (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton) dished out her first collegiate assist and freshman Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) recorded her team-leading fourth assist of the season. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made one save to earn the shutout win.

D'Youville was led by Hannah Woodhouse who had a shot on goal. Reaghan Duval made 15 saves to take the loss.

The Saints had their first and only scoring chance in the 14th minute when a Woodhouse shot was stopped by Anaya. Mercy forced Duval to make four early saves before McKail broke through with the game's first goal in the 27th minute. The graduate student received a ball from Bermudez and fired a shot that was initially saved by Duval but trickled in to give Mercy a 1-0 lead.

Just over two minutes later, Hoyt made it 2-0 after Dixon fed her a through ball from midfield and the graduate student beat Duval 1v1 to give the Mavericks another goal.

Bermudez netted the final goal of the half, firing a shot into the left corner of the net after a header pass from Valenzuela to make it 3-0 at halftime.

Camacho capped off the scoring in the 81st minute when she fired one past Duval after a pass from Bermudez to make it 4-0. Mercy did not surrender another shot after the 14th minute and earned the 4-0 win.

Mercy held a 27-1 edge in shots and a 19-1 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, September 21st when the host Queens at 1 p.m.
