Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 4-13 overall and 3-11 in NE10 play. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Mercy is 9-1 all-time against Molloy and have won five straight meetings. The Mavericks look to win their season opener for the second straight season.
Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is junior Ally Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Sophomore Kasey Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Graduate student Alyssa Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Juniors Kelly Rosenfeld and Rieley Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Graduate student Lauren Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Sophomore Alexandra Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Lions
Molloy is coming off a 7-0 loss at No. 4 Millersville on Saturday. The Lions opened their 2022 season on September 10th with a 3-2 win over Southern Connecticut State. The win snapped a 31-game losing streak dating back to 2019. Molloy is coached by Mercy alum Catherine Brudi who is in her second season at the helm of the Lions. The Lions have been led by Devin Harkins who has a team-high two goals and four points. Dayanna Ortiz has one goal, and two points and Alessandra Vidal has an assist. Gianna Festa leads the Lions in goal with a 1-1 record, 16 saves, a .696 save percentage and 4.67 goals-against average. Kelsey Price has made one appearance in goal with six saves in 30 minutes of action.
