Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off a 3-2 win over Molloy on Tuesday in their season opener. Mercy was led by sophomore Kasey Volz who scored the game-winning goal and by graduate student Alyssa Sacco and junior Rachel Palladino who each had a goal and an assist. Senior Lauren Viscione made two saves to earn the win in goal. The Mavericks are 0-3 all-time against Bentley and look to start 2-0 for the first time in program history. The Mavericks also look to win their NE10 opener for the first time. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 4-13 overall and 3-11 in NE10 play. The Mavericks just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship and will look to qualify for the championship for the first time in program history. Mercy enters their third season as members of the NE10 and have won three NE10 games in each of their previous two seasons. The Mavericks were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll and look to prove the coaches' prediction wrong. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is junior Ally Schreck who had a team-high 15 points last season on a team-high six goals with three assists. Volz was third on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists. Sacco also returns after recording seven points on two goals and three assists. Juniors Kelly Rosenfeld and Rieley Fitzgerald both had three assists as well last season. Senior Lily Sherry will also see action after recording a goal last season. Viscione returns in goal after going 3-12 with 135 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.37 goals-against average. Sophomore Alexandra Giordano also returns in goal after making 10 saves in four appearances.
Scouting the Falcons
Bentley earned a 2-1 win over Southern New Hampshire in their NE10 opener on Saturday. The Falcons were picked third in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 14-6 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. Bentley was ranked No. 8 nationally in the NFHCA Preseason Top 10 Poll. The Falcons are led by junior Katie Thies who has an NE10-best four goals on the year with eight points. Sophomore Lida Coco has two goals and a team-high two assists and sophomore Libby Harrison has two goals. Sophomore Mia Trottie is 1-1 in goal with 11 saves, a .733 save percentage and 2.01 goals-against average. Sophomore Erin McGuinness is 0-2 in goal with 19 saves, a .704 save percentage and 4.00 goals-against average and senior Madison Clark is 1-0 in goal with a shutout.
