Mercy earned a 0-0 draw against Molloy in the ECC Championship Final on November 5, 2022. The Mavericks won penalty kicks 5-4 to win the ECC Championship.
Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks earned a 2-1 win over Southern Connecticut State in their last game on Tuesday. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 14-3-2 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Mavericks won their third ECC Tournament Championship and their first outright Regular Season Championship. Mercy looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the 10th straight season. The Mavericks ended the 2022 season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll and begin the 2023 season receiving votes. Mercy was picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and return three of their top five goal scorers from last season. They also return eight student-athletes who started at least 10 matches for the 2022 squad. Senior Kayla Camacho was named the ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after finishing second in the conference with 11 goals and 27 points a year ago en route to All-Conference First Team honors and All-Region accolades. Also returning is reigning ECC Goalkeeper of the Year sophomore Kamy Anaya who went 13-3-2 last season with 45 saves, a .789 save percentage and 0.70 goals-against average. Last year's ECC Rookie of the Year Ancksu Dixon also returns after recording a team-high 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Head Coach Jack Nicholson also returns All-Conference honorees in graduate student Tyra Anderson and seniors Skyler Schwenkler, Jennifer Silva, and Madison Rosa. Mercy has been led by sophomore Maleah Tarin who has been named ECC Rookie of the Week twice and has a team-high four goals and eight points. Dixon was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on September 5th and has two goals. She scored the game-winning goal against Southern Connecticut State. Rosa scored the game-winning goal against Dominican on September 6th and has two goals on the year. Junior Amiah Washington also has two goals on the year and freshman Angelina Ortiz netted her first collegiate goal in the win over Dominican. Camacho and Schwenkler both have a team-high two assists on the year and Avalos, Anderson, Silva and junior Valeria Rodriguez all have an assist. Anaya is 4-3-3 in goal with 33 saves, a .750 save percentage and 1.10 goals-against average. She has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and Tarin was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday. The Mavericks are 10-9-3 in their last 22 meetings against Molloy. The Mavericks have not lost to Molloy at home since 2011.
Scouting the Lions
Molloy is coming off a 4-1 win over New Haven on Wednesday. The Lions were picked second in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 12-4-3 last season. Molloy has been led by one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week sophomore Olivia Ingenito who has a team-high 16 points on a team-high eight goals. Senior Caitlin Kennedy is second on the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists. ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year senior Sarah Tappeto has a team-high four assists with three goals and 10 points. Freshman Elyse Munoz is 3-2-1 in goal with 26 saves, a .743 save percentage and 1.20 goals-against average. Senior Shannon Kilian is 2-1-2 in goal with 21 saves, a .808 save percentage and 1.11 goals-against average.
