Dixon Records Game-High Five Points as Women's Soccer Earns 6-0 Win Over Lincoln

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2023) – Powered by a game-high five points from sophomore Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 6-0 win over ECC foe Lincoln University on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (6-4-3, 4-1-2 ECC) have won three of their last four games and improve to 5-0 all-time against the Lions (2-12-2, 0-8 ECC). Mercy has secured their 10th straight ECC Championship berth.

Dixon had two goals and an assist and now has a team-high five goals with two assists on the year. Junior Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J./University of Bridgeport) netted a season-high two goals and now has four goals on the year. Freshman Angelina Ortiz (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) recorded her second goal of the season and junior Elizabeth Bowles (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers Montessori Academy) scored her first goal of the season. Junior Valeria Rodriguez (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./University of Bridgeport) dished out her second assist of the season and sophomore Maleah Tarin (Eastvale, Calif./Chino Hills) had her first assist of the season. Sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) did not face a shot and earned her fourth shutout of the season.

Lincoln was led by Ariel Reyes who made a game-high 19 saves to take the loss.

Reyes made four early saves before Dixon scored the game's first goal in the 25th minute to give Mercy a 1-0 lead. Ortiz gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead in the 27th minute after firing home a Dixon cross. Washington increased the Mercy lead to 3-0 in the 30th minute after drawing a foul in the box and connecting on the ensuing penalty kick. Bowles gave the Mavericks a 4-0 lead with less than a minute to play in the first half after scoring on a free kick. Mercy headed into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

Reyes stopped a Washington penalty kick in the 51st minute to keep the score 4-0. Dixon made it 5-0 with her second goal of the day in the 57th minute after a cross from Rodriguez.

Washington found the back of the net again in the 89th minute following a shot outside the box that found its way above Reyes to give Mercy a 6-0 lead. The Mavericks backline would not surrender a shot and Mercy earned the 6-0 win.

Mercy held a 39-0 edge in shots and a 27-0 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, October 25th when they host Holy Family at 2 p.m.
