Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off a 5-2 loss at #6 Saint Anselm on Tuesday. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 8-7 overall and 7-6 in NE10 play. The Mavericks posted their first-ever winning season and had their most overall and NE10 wins in a season last year. Mercy just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship for the first time due to a tiebreaker. The Mavericks have been picked a program-best 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is senior Ally Schreck who had eight goals and three assists last season. Senior Rachel Palladino also returns after posting three goals and six assists last season and senior Rieley Fitzgerald also returns after recording three goals and five assists. Senior Kelly Rosenfeld had five goals last season and senior Kate Ringstad had a goal and a team-high seven assists a year ago. On defense, seniors Victoria Devlin and Flynn Kirk both return after combining for 14 defensive saves last year. Junior Kasey Volz also returns after scoring the winning goal against Molloy last season. Junior Alexandra Giordano returns in goal after appearing in two games last season with six saves. Senior Rachel Palladino has a team-high 12 goals and 25 points on the year and was named to the NE10 Honor Roll on September 11th. Palladino set a new single-season school record in goals against STAC, surpassing the previous record of 10 set by Alyssa Sacco last season. Senior Kelly Rosenfeld is third on the team with 18 points on six goals and has a team-high-tying six assists. Rosenfeld was named to the NE10 Honor Roll on September 25th. Senior Kate Ringstad is second on the team with 24 points on nine goals and a team-high-tying six assists. Ringstad was named to the NE10 Honor Roll on October 23rd. Senior Rieley Fitzgerald is fourth on the team with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Juniors Jessica Evans and Kasey Volz both have three goals and an assist. Sophomore Samantha Trickel has three goals and two assists and senior Ally Schreck has one goal and four assists. Senior Rory McComb also has a goal and senior Victoria Devlin has a team-high 11 defensive saves. Devlin was tabbed to the NE10 Honor Roll on October 23rd. Junior Alexandra Giordano is 6-8 in goal with 109 saves and a .732 save percentage. She was named to the NE10 Honor Roll for the second time this season on September 18th. Sophomore Rebecca McClure is 1-1 in goal with 36 saves and a .735 save percentage. The Mavericks have clinched their first-ever NE10 Tournament berth and will play in the NE10 Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 31st. Mercy is 3-5 all-time against Southern Connecticut State and has won three of the last four meetings. The Mavericks will honor seniors, Kate Ringstad, Kelly Rosenfeld, Rory McComb, Ally Schreck, Flynn Kirk, Rachel Palladino, Kyra Reyes, Rieley Fitzgerald and Victoria Devlin in a ceremony prior to the game.
Scouting the Owls
Southern Connecticut State is coming off a 5-1 loss to Pace on Tuesday for their sixth straight loss. The Owls were picked 13th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 5-13 last season. Southern Connecticut State is led by Tori Geaglone who has a team-high 29 points on a team-high 12 goals with a team-high-tying five assists. Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti is second on the team with 20 points on six goals and a team-high eight assists and Meghan Tillona is third on the team with 18 points on nine goals. Geaglone also has a team-high five defensive saves and Kayla Siemer has four defensive saves. Rachel Miller is 5-9 in goal with 113 saves and a .685 save percentage.
