Rosa Scores Game-High Two Goals as Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Senior Day Win over Daemen

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2023) – Powered by a game-high two goals from senior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) on Senior Day, the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 Senior Day win over ECC foe Daemen University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

In a ceremony prior to the game, Rosa, Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley), Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream), Marlene Avalos (San Diego, Calif./Otay Ranch), Skyler Schwenkler (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) and Toni Valadez (Westminster, Calif./Pacifica) were honored for their contributions to the women's soccer program.

The Mavericks (8-4-3, 5-1-2 ECC) end the regular season with three straight wins and improve to 11-1 all-time against the Wildcats (8-4-3, 6-1-1 ECC). Mercy has secured the No. 3 seed in next week's ECC Championship and will host No. 6 seed D'Youville in a First Round matchup on Thursday, November 2nd at 1 p.m.

Rosa now has four goals on the year and sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) did not face a shot on shot, earning her sixth shutout of the season.

Daemen was led by Kylie Miranto and Madita Zeitz who both had a team-high two shots. Becca Schultz made a game-high 11 saves to take the loss.

Rosa wasted little time in getting Mercy on the scoreboard as she scored in just the second minute of action to give the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks forced Schultz to make three saves before Rosa netted her second goal of the game in the 31st minute to give Mercy a 2-0 lead. Schultz made two more saves in the half to keep the Mavericks from scoring again and Mercy headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Mercy continued to dominate play in the second half, outshooting the Wildcats 13-5 in the second half. The Mavericks backline held Daemen without a shot on goal and Mercy earned the 2-0 Senior Day win.

Mercy held a 26-7 edge in shots and a 14-0 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, November 2nd when they host D'Youville in an ECC Championship First Round game at 1 p.m.
