DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2023) – Powered by three different Mavericks scoring and three saves from sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly), the No. 3 seeded Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over No. 6 seeded D'Youville University in the First Round of the ECC Women's Soccer Championship on Thursday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (9-4-3) have won four games in a row and improve to 3-0-1 all-time against the Saints (4-9-3). Mercy advances to Sunday's Semifinals where they will play at No. 2 seed Daemen University at 1:30 p.m.
Senior Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley) had a game-high three points on a goal and an assist, recording her first goal of the season. Junior Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J./University of Bridgeport) netted her fifth goal of the season and senior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) also produced her fifth goal of the year. Senior Skyler Schwenkler (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) dished out her third assist of the season and Anaya made three saves to earn the win and her seventh shutout.
D'Youville was led by Lauren Zwolenkiewicz who had a team-high two shots. Katie Liljenquist made a game-high 10 saves to take the loss.
Liljenquist made two early saves and a sophomore Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) shot hit the right post to keep the game scoreless. Silva drew a foul in the box in the 19th minute and connected on the ensuing penalty kick to give Mercy a 1-0 lead.
The Mavericks increased the lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute when Silva fired a free kick into the box that found Schwenkler, who touched the ball over to Washington, who headed the ball into the back of the net.
Rosa gave the Mavericks a 3-0 lead in the 33rd minute when she fired a shot from well outside the box that found the upper corner of the net.
Mercy headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The Mavericks backline limited D'Youville to just one shot on goal in the second half, giving Mercy the 3-0 win.
Mercy held a 24-5 edge in shots and a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, November 5th when they play at No. 2 seed Daemen in an ECC Semifinal at 1:30 p.m.
