Tarin Scores and Anaya Makes Career-High-Tying Eight Saves as Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at STAC

SPARKILL, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2023) – Powered by a goal from sophomore Maleah Tarin (Eastvale, Calif./Chino Hills) and a career-high-tying eight saves from sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw at ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.

The Mavericks (3-3-3, 2-1-2 ECC) earn their second draw in ECC play this season, while the Spartans (2-6-1, 1-2-1 ECC) earn their first tie of the season.

Tarin recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the season and senior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) dished out her second assist of the season. Anaya made a game-high eight saves to earn the draw.

The Spartans were led by Rachel Brownell who had a game-high four shots on goal. Catalena Robson made three saves to earn the tie in goal.

Anaya made her first save in the 2nd minute to keep the game scoreless. The Spartans scored in the 19th minute on an own goal to take a 1-0 lead. Camacho forced Robson to make a save in the 19th minute and Anaya stopped two more shots in the half to keep the score 1-0 at halftime.

Anaya stopped another shot in the 47th minute to keep it 1-0. Tarin would even the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute, following an assist from Camacho.

Anaya made four more saves in the half to keep the score 1-1. Robson stopped a Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) shot in the 83rd minute and a Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley) shot in the final minute of play to keep the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation.

Shots were tied at 10-10 and St. Thomas Aquinas held a 9-4 edge in shots. Mercy held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, October 10th when they host Southern Connecticut State at 2 p.m.
