WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Mar. 3, 2023) – Mercy College women's basketball senior Katie Wall (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) has been named East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball First Team All-Conference and graduate student Taysha Bender (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) has been tabbed Second Team All-Conference.
Wall takes home All-Conference honors for the third straight season and is named to the First Team for the second straight year. Bender receives All-Conference recognition for the second consecutive year. The duo helped lead the Mavericks to their most wins since 1989 and their most ECC wins since 1997. Mercy qualified for the ECC Tournament for the third straight season and hosted their first-ever ECC Tournament on Wednesday.
Wall had a strong senior season for the Mavericks, averaging a team-high 14.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The senior ranked fourth in the ECC in points per game and was in the top 10 in the ECC in both assists and steals per game. The one-time ECC Player and Defensive Player of the Week also ranked fifth in the ECC in threes made (44) and was third in free throws made (87). Wall scored a career-high 31 points in the Mavericks win over St. Thomas Aquinas on February 8th. The senior recorded her 1,000th career point against Chestnut Hill on December 6th. The guard had five games with 20 or more points and scored in double figures in all but five games.
Bender is named to the Second Team for the second straight season. The graduate student ranked second on the team with 10.9 points and 1.8 steals per game and was third with 1.9 assists per game. The guard ranked tenth in the ECC in points per game and scored her 1,000th career point in the win over D'Youville on December 9th. Bender scored a career-high 30 points in the Mavericks win over District of Columbia on December 3rd.
