Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off a 10-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 8-7 overall and 7-6 in NE10 play. The Mavericks posted their first-ever winning season and had their most overall and NE10 wins in a season last year. Mercy just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship for the first time due to a tiebreaker. The Mavericks have been picked a program-best 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is senior Ally Schreck who had eight goals and three assists last season. Senior Rachel Palladino also returns after posting three goals and six assists last season and senior Rieley Fitzgerald also returns after recording three goals and five assists. Senior Kelly Rosenfeld had five goals last season and senior Kate Ringstad had a goal and a team-high seven assists a year ago. On defense, seniors Victoria Devlin and Flynn Kirk both return after combining for 14 defensive saves last year. Junior Kasey Volz also returns after scoring the winning goal against Molloy last season. Junior Alexandra Giordano returns in goal after appearing in two games last season with six saves. Senior Rachel Palladino has a team-high three goals and six points on the year and junior Jessica Evans is second on the team with five points on two goals and an assist. Senior Kate Ringstad has two goals and senior Rieley Fitzgerald and sophomore Samantha Trickel both have a goal and an assist. Senior Kelly Rosenfeld and junior Kasey Volz both have a goal and senior Ally Schreck has a team-high two assists. Senior Victoria Devlin has a team-high two defensive saves and junior Alexandra Giordano is 0-1 in goal with 14 saves and a .778 save percentage. Sophomore Rebecca McClure is 1-0 in goal with one save and a 1.000 save percentage.
Scouting the Golden Bears
Kutztown is coming off a 1-0 win over Bentley on Friday. The Golden Bears were ranked No. 4 nationally in the NFHCA Preseason Top 10 Poll and were picked third in the PSAC Preseason Poll. Kutztown is currently ranked No. 3 nationally in this week's NFHCA Poll. Kutztown went 16-3 last season, falling in the PSAC Semifinals. The Golden Bears are led by Breann Craley who has a team-high nine points on four goals and one assist. Erin Gonzalez is second on the team with seven points on three goals and one assist and Sarah Gatehouse has two goals and two assists. Jillian Buchman has two goals and an assist and Mia Kepler is 4-0 in goal with three shutouts.
