Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off a 5-2 win over Saint Michael's on Saturday. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 8-7 overall and 7-6 in NE10 play. The Mavericks posted their first-ever winning season and had their most overall and NE10 wins in a season last year. Mercy just missed out on qualifying for the NE10 Championship for the first time due to a tiebreaker. The Mavericks have been picked a program-best 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll. Leading the returners for Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola is senior Ally Schreck who had eight goals and three assists last season. Senior Rachel Palladino also returns after posting three goals and six assists last season and senior Rieley Fitzgerald also returns after recording three goals and five assists. Senior Kelly Rosenfeld had five goals last season and senior Kate Ringstad had a goal and a team-high seven assists a year ago. On defense, seniors Victoria Devlin and Flynn Kirk both return after combining for 14 defensive saves last year. Junior Kasey Volz also returns after scoring the winning goal against Molloy last season. Junior Alexandra Giordano returns in goal after appearing in two games last season with six saves. Senior Rachel Palladino has a team-high five goals and 10 points on the year and was named to the NE10 Honor Roll last week. Junior Jessica Evans is second on the team with seven points on three goals and an assist. Senior Kate Ringstad has two goals and an assist and sophomore Samantha Trickel has two goals and an assist. Senior Rieley Fitzgerald has a goal and an assist and senior Kelly Rosenfeld has a goal and two assists. Junior Kasey Volz has a goal and an assist and senior Ally Schreck has a team-high three assists. Senior Victoria Devlin has a team-high four defensive saves and junior Alexandra Giordano is 1-1 in goal with 31 saves and a .816 save percentage. She was named to the NE10 Honor Roll for the second time this season on Monday. Sophomore Rebecca McClure is 1-1 in goal with 10 saves and a .714 save percentage. The Mavericks are looking to start 2-0 in NE10 play for the first time and look to win their eighth straight matchup against Molloy. Mercy is 11-1 all-time against Molloy.
Scouting the Lions
Molloy is coming off a 7-0 loss at Assumption on Saturday. The Lions were picked 14th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 1-16 last season. Molloy has dropped 20 straight games dating back to last season. The Lions are led by Gianna Mastrocco and Madi Stuckart who both have a goal and a team-high two points. Lizzy Hedgecock has a team-high three defensive saves and Kelsey Price is 0-4 in goal with 47 saves, a .662 save percentage and 6.00 goals-against average. Molloy looks to beat Mercy for the first time since 2018.
