STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2024) – Powered by goals from senior Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J./University of Bridgeport) and junior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win at ECC foe The College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
The Mavericks (7-4-1, 3-1 ECC) have won four games in a row and defeat the Dolphins (0-8-2, 0-4-1 ECC) for the fourth straight time.
Mercy was led by Washington who recorded her third goal of the season and her second assist of the year. Dixon added her team-leading ninth goal of the season and junior Anna Deutscher (Heidenheim, Germany/Monroe CC) dished out her fourth assist of the year. Freshman Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) did not face a shot on goal, earning her fifth shutout of the year.
Staten Island was led by Sara Villacres who made a game-high 12 saves to take the loss.
Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of action when Washington scored following a Deutscher corner kick.
The Mavericks forced Villacres to make eight more saves in the half, but were unable to score again, and headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Dixon made it 2-0 in the 58th minute when she finished off a Washington pass.
The Mercy backline held Staten Island to just two shots in the game and no shots on goal to earn the 2-0 shutout win.
Mercy held a 26-2 edge in shots and a 14-0 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, October 16th when they play at Dominican at 3:30 p.m.
