Four Mavericks Score as Women's Soccer Earns 4-0 Win at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2024) – Powered by goals from seniors Elizabeth Bowles (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers Montessori Academy), Isabella Messina (Huntington Beach, Calif./Saddleback College) and Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J./University of Bridgeport) and junior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Dominican University on Wednesday afternoon at O'Brien Field.

The Mavericks (8-4-1) have won five games in a row for the first time since 2022 and defeat the Chargers (5-6) for the second straight year.

Mercy was led by Dixon who had a goal and an assist. The junior now has a team-high 10 goals, six assists and 26 points. Dixon now has 20 career assists, tying the school record set by Trista Seara in 2019. Bowles added a goal and an assist and how has two goals and two assists on the year. Messina netted her second goal of the year and Washington recorded her fourth goal of the season. Senior Amber Garcia (Corona, Calif./Chaffey College) dished out her first assist of the season and freshman Hailey Metzger (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) produced her sixth assist of the year. Freshman Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) made one save to post her sixth shutout of the season.

Dominican was led by Kaitlyn Zeeb who had three shots. Brielle Bell made a game-high 10 saves to take the loss.

Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Bowles found Dixon, who fired a shot into the top right corner of the net, giving the Mavericks an early lead. Mercy headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead, forcing Bell to make four saves in the half.

Messina made it 2-0 in the 48th minute when Garcia sent a cross from right to left and Messina fired the ball into the top left corner. Washington made it 3-0 in the 51st minute when she fired a pass from Dixon into the top right corner.

Bowles capped off the scoring for Mercy in the 76th minute when she fired home a Metzger assist, giving Mercy a 4-0 lead. The Mavericks' backline did not allow a shot on goal for the remainder of the game, giving Mercy the 4-0 win.

Mercy held a 23-8 edge in shots and a 14-1 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 19th when they host Jefferson at 3 p.m.
