DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2024) – Powered by a game-high five saves from freshman Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against RV Jefferson University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (8-4-2) remain unbeaten at home this season with a record of 6-0-2 at Mercy Field, while the Rams (10-1-2) earn a draw against Mercy for the first time since 2013.
Mercy was led by Becker who made a game-high five saves to post her seventh shutout of the season. Freshmen Alyssa Santiago (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) and Ana Polychroniades (Queens, N.Y./St. John's Preparatory) both had a team-high two shots with one shot on goal.
Jefferson was led by Liv Riddel who made four saves to earn the shutout.
Both Becker and Riddel made two saves apiece in the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Polychroniades forced Riddel to make a key save on a strong scoring chance for the Mavericks in the 62nd minute. Becker stopped three shots in the final 15 minutes of play to keep Jefferson from scoring and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Jefferson held an 11-9 edge in shots and a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were tied at 4-4.
Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, October 23rd when they host Queens at 1 p.m.
