Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 8-10 overall and 7-6 in NE10 play, qualifying for the NE10 Championship for the first time in program history. The Mavericks matched their school record for overall wins in a season and NE10 wins in a season. Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks have been picked a program-best ninth in the NE10 Preseason Poll with the top eight teams qualifying for the NE10 Championship. Leading the returners for the Mavericks is senior Rachel Palladino who was named Third Team All-NE10 last season after recording 14 goals, one assist, 29 points and three game-winning goals. She led the team in goals and points and set a single-season school record in points and goals. Also returning is graduate student Kelly Rosenfeld who started 18 games last season and had six goals, eight assists and 20 points. She led the team in assists and ranked third in points and goals. Graduate student Kasey Volz also returns after netting five goals and one assist in 18 starts. Junior Samantha Trickel and senior Jessica Evans are back after combining for six goals and three assists in 2023. Junior Reagan Lane also returns after posting two defensive saves last season. Junior Alexandra Giordano returns in goal for the Mavericks after going 7-9 in goal with 127 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average in 17 games.

Mercy is coming off a 4-1 loss to No. 10 Saint Anselm on Tuesday. The Mavericks were led by senior Jessica Evans who scored and by senior Alexandra Giordano who made a career-high 20 saves. Mercy has been led by sophomore Madison Preston who has 11 points on four goals and three assists. Graduate student Kelly Rosenfeld has three goals and an assist and junior Samantha Trickel has four goals and an assist. Freshman Charlotte Sabert has a team-high 14 points on five goals and four assists. Freshman Madison Brefka has two assists on the year and graduate student Kasey Volz has two goals and two assists. Senior Rachel Palladino has four goals, and an assist and freshman Eunice Santiago has one assist and four defensive saves. Evans has two goals and freshman Jaime Stella has one goal. Junior Reagan Lane has a team-high five defensive saves and Volz has two defensive saves. Rosenfeld has one defensive save. Junior Rebecca McClure has been named NE10 Goalie of the Week twice and is 5-8 with 81 saves and a 2.22 goals-against average. Giordano is 1-2 in goal with 45 saves and a .776 save percentage. Giordano was named NE10 Goalie of the Week on October 21st. The Mavericks are 4-5 all-time against the Owls and have won the last two meetings.

Scouting the Owls

Southern Connecticut State is coming off a 6-1 loss at Pace on Tuesday for their fourth straight loss. The Owls were picked 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 5-12 last season. Southern Connecticut State is led by Keana Criscuolo who has a team-high 12 points on a team-high six goals. Natalia Fiato has three goals and seven points and Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti has a team-high four assists. Taylor Leckey has two goals and two assists and McKenzie Fairfax has a team-high four defensive saves. Rachel Miller is 2-6 in goal with 53 saves, a .716 save percentage and 2.74 goals-against average. Lyndsay Troisi is 3-5 in goal with 104 saves, a .743 save percentage and 3.69 goals-against average.
