Barrera Named ECC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week; Wall Tabbed to Honor Roll

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2024) – Mercy University women's basketball sophomore Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Week 15 and graduate student Katie Wall (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) has been tabbed to the Honor Roll.

Barrera averaged 13.0 points per game with a team-high 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for Mercy. The sophomore also averaged 1.5 blocks per game and shot 50.0 percent from the floor. The forward opened the week with 15 points, 10 rebounds (six defensive), five steals and two blocks in the 67-50 win over Queens on Wednesday and ended the week with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals in the 73-54 win at Molloy on Saturday.

Wall averaged a team-high 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game with 2.5 steals per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The graduate student opened the week with eight points, four steals, five rebounds and a game-high 11 assists in the Mavericks' 67-50 win over Queens on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds with three assists in Mercy's 73-54 win at Molloy on Saturday.

The award is the fifth for Barrera this season and the 10th for Wall. Mercy has now earned 25 awards on the year.

Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, March 2nd when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 3 p.m.
