Three Mavericks Score as RV Women's Lacrosse Plays at No. 3 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2024) – Despite three different Mavericks scoring, the RV Mercy University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-3 decision at No. 3 Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.

The Mavericks (4-8) have dropped two games in a row and fall to 0-5 all-time against the Panthers (9-1).

Mercy was led by sophomore Andrea Mott (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) who had a team-high two points on a goal and an assist. Senior Brooke Zarou (Garden City, N.Y./Long Island University) and junior Leah Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) also scored and junior Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had a team-high three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Senior Olivia Maute (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) made two saves with nine goals allowed in 21:10 minutes of action to take the loss. Sophomore Olivia LaMonica (Jefferson Township, N.J./Jefferson Township) made a game-high five saves with 10 goals allowed in 38:50 minutes of action.

Adelphi was led by Alexandra Leggio who had a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists. Jillian McFadden made three saves to earn the win.

Mott gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead at the 12:30 mark of the first quarter. Adelphi scored the final seven goals of the quarter to take a 7-1 lead after the first quarter.

The Panthers scored all seven goals in the second quarter to take a 14-1 lead at halftime.

Hansen scored the first goal of the third quarter at the 12:54 mark to make it 14-2. Adelphi scored the final three goals in the quarter to take a 17-2 lead after three quarters.

Zarou made it 17-3 following an assist from Mott at the 13:49 mark of the fourth quarter. The Panthers scored the final two goals of the game to take a 19-3 lead and held on for the 19-3 victory.

Adelphi held a 40-11 edge in shots, a 21-6 edge in ground balls and a 14-12 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, April 10th when they host Molloy at 3 p.m.
