MANSFIELD, Mass. (Aug. 14, 2024) – The Mercy University field hockey team has been selected a program-best ninth in the NE10 Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference office earlier today.
Assumption tops the poll with 165 overall points and nine first place votes and Saint Anselm was picked second finishing with 158 overall points and five first place votes. The Mavericks finished with 63 points.
Last season, Mercy went 8-10 on the year and qualified for the NE10 Championship for the first time in program history. The Mavericks matched a school record with eight overall wins and seven NE10 wins.
Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks return several key contributors from last year's team. Highlighting the returners is senior Rachel Palladino who was named Third Team All-NE10 last season after setting a single-season school record with 14 goals and 29 points. Graduate student Kelly Rosenfeld also returns after posting six goals and eight assists a year ago and senior Alexandra Giordano is back in goal after going 7-9 with 127 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average in 16 starts in 2023.
The Mavericks open their 2024 season on Friday, September 6th when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m.
