Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 8-10 overall and 7-6 in NE10 play, qualifying for the NE10 Championship for the first time in program history. The Mavericks matched their school record for overall wins in a season and NE10 wins in a season. Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks have been picked a program-best ninth in the NE10 Preseason Poll with the top eight teams qualifying for the NE10 Championship. Leading the returners for the Mavericks is senior Rachel Palladino who was named Third Team All-NE10 last season after recording 14 goals, one assist, 29 points and three game-winning goals. She led the team in goals and points and set a single-season school record in points and goals. Also returning is graduate student Kelly Rosenfeld who started 18 games last season and had six goals, eight assists and 20 points. She led the team in assists and ranked third in points and goals. Graduate student Kasey Volz also returns after netting five goals and one assist in 18 starts. Junior Samantha Trickel and senior Jessica Evans are back after combining for six goals and three assists in 2023. Junior Reagan Lane also returns after posting two defensive saves last season. Junior Alexandra Giordano returns in goal for the Mavericks after going 7-9 in goal with 127 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average in 17 games.
Mercy is coming off a 7-0 loss at No. 8 Bloomsburg on Wednesday. Senior Alexandra Giordano and freshman Kaylise McClure combined for seven saves. Junior Samantha Trickel leads the Mavericks with one goal and two points and freshman Madison Brefka has one assist on the year. Junior Reagan Lane has one defensive save and junior Rebecca McClure is 1-0 with five saves and a 0.00 goals-against average. Giordano is 0-1 in goal with four saves and a .444 save percentage. Mercy looks to defeat Saint Michael's for the third straight time.
Scouting the Saints
D'Youville has opened their inaugural season with a 6-4 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday and a 3-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Saints have been led by Kelsey Robertson who has a team-high 11 points on a team-high four goals and three assists. Erica Prible has five points on two goals and an assist and Madisyn Grawl has two goals. Sydney Bolesta, Chloe Burkhard and Olivia McClaine all have two defensive saves and Hayden Herbold is 2-0 in goal with 14 saves, a .778 save percentage and 2.29 goals-against average.
Scouting the Purple Knights
Saint Michael's is coming off a 2-0 loss at American International on Wednesday. The Purple Knights were picked 12th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 3-15 last season. Saint Michael's has been led by Chloe Sapienza who has one goal and by Bridgie Loughlin who has an assist. Addy Fenton has a team-high six defensive saves and Joelle Cameron is 0-1 in goal with 27 saves, a .871 save percentage and 2.67 goals-against average. Riley O'Connor is 0-2 in goal with 25 saves.
