Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 8-10 overall and 7-6 in NE10 play, qualifying for the NE10 Championship for the first time in program history. The Mavericks matched their school record for overall wins in a season and NE10 wins in a season. Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks have been picked a program-best ninth in the NE10 Preseason Poll with the top eight teams qualifying for the NE10 Championship. Leading the returners for the Mavericks is senior Rachel Palladino who was named Third Team All-NE10 last season after recording 14 goals, one assist, 29 points and three game-winning goals. She led the team in goals and points and set a single-season school record in points and goals. Also returning is graduate student Kelly Rosenfeld who started 18 games last season and had six goals, eight assists and 20 points. She led the team in assists and ranked third in points and goals. Graduate student Kasey Volz also returns after netting five goals and one assist in 18 starts. Junior Samantha Trickel and senior Jessica Evans are back after combining for six goals and three assists in 2023. Junior Reagan Lane also returns after posting two defensive saves last season. Junior Alexandra Giordano returns in goal for the Mavericks after going 7-9 in goal with 127 saves, a .738 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average in 17 games.
Mercy is coming off a 2-1 loss at No. 6 Assumption on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by senior Rachel Palladino who scored and by junior Rebecca McClure who had a career-high 15 saves. Mercy has been led by sophomore Madison Preston who has a team-high eight points on three goals and two assists. Rosenfeld has two goals and an assist and Trickel has a team-high-tying three goals. Freshman Charlotte Sabert has six points on two goals and two assists. Freshman Madison Brefka has two assists on the year and graduate student Kasey Volz has a goal and one assist. Senior Rachel Palladino has three goals, and an assist and freshman Eunice Santiago has one assist. Junior Reagan Lane, Volz and Rosenfeld each have one defensive save. Junior Rebecca McClure is 5-1 with 35 saves and a 0.91 goals-against average. Giordano is 0-1 in goal with four saves and a .444 save percentage. McClure was named the NE10 Goalie of the Week on September 16th and again on Monday. Mercy looks to defeat Adelphi for the first time in program history. The Mavericks are currently 0-10 all-time against the Panthers. The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history and look to start 3-1 in NE10 play for the first time since 2022.
Scouting the Panthers
Adelphi is coming off a 3-2 overtime loss against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday for their third straight loss. The Panthers have had six of their seven losses this season decided by one goal. Adelphi was picked sixth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 10-9 last season, falling in the NE10 Championship Semifinals. The Panthers have been led by Ali Nagy who has a team-high 11 points on a team-high five goals with one assist. Lana Mignon De Wet has 10 points on four goals and two assists and Emiline Biggin has a team-high five assists. Jillian Riche has three assists and Caroline Beakes has three goals. Kylie Peregoy has a team-high four defensive saves and Tayla Szmak is 1-7 in goal with 60 saves, a .690 save percentage and 3.19 goals-against average.
